COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Job Summary

The Communications Specialist will proactively promote the hospital as the region’s leading provider of clinical care, education, research, employment and positive economic impact. He/she is responsible for developing and executing communications plans across multiple platforms including, but not limited to, written and digital publications, web and social media. She/he will focus on the required aspects of writing, editing, designing and coordination of print (e.g., magazines, newspaper ads, press releases) and digital products (e.g., web, blog, social media, e-newsletters). The incumbent will work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other departments and teams on media relations, internal and external communications and marketing.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Marketing and CommunicationPlans- The Communications Specialist will work with the MARCOM team and departments and teams within the healthcare system to develop and implement marketing and communication plans and initiatives for a variety of healthcare activities.

  • Generate and Organize Content for Distribution- The Communications Specialist will generate and organize content for distribution via publications, websites, social media and other venues. He/she will seek out, write, edit and design (when appropriate), content related to the MVHS mission, vision and values. She/he will proactively promote content through digital and print media. The Communications Specialist will maintain consistent editorial and communication standards, branding and guidelines while generating content ideas.

  • Manage Health System Social Media- The Communications Specialist is responsible for contributing to and managing the health system's social media accounts. This can include creating content for his/her departments, attending and posting from events and contributing toward growing the health system's social media following.

  • Serve as Senior Writer and Editor- The Communications Specialist will use strong written and oral communication skills and is responsible for writing and editing content for external and internal print and digital media including magazines, websites, social media and other publications.

  • Prepare Remarks and Presentations- The Communications Specialist will write, edit and prepare remarks and presentations for various hospital personnel and partner with key stakeholders to oversee corporate communications for various entities.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or Associates degree with equivalent experience.

  • 3 years in journalism or public relations with at least 2 years in media relations or science/media writing.

  • Practical knowledge of AP style, writing for publications and editing. Must possess strong creative and writing skills.

  • Highly proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), SEO, Google Analytics, social media analytics.

  • Photography/video production skills.

  • Proven multitasking and project management skills.

  • Problem solving, interpersonal and customer service skills.
