Critical Response Nurse - Full Time - Days

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Nursing for Transfer Center/Supervisors, the Critical Response Nurse will be part of the Nursing Supervisor team and is responsible for quality improvement, performance management, chart reveiw of emergency response activities. Performs follow up training, education, coaching/counseling and policy revisions. Develops, implements, collects and creates improvement plans for Code Responses (i.e. Codes, Rapid Response). Additionally, the RN is responsible for collecting and reporting quality data and metrics related to code response and must work collaboratively with multiple disciplines within the organization. This role functions independently and is continuously on cell phone to readily respond to emergent calls. The RN has multiple demands and must prioritize their work to respond to the most urgent need. RN must have high level of competence and must stay current with changes in practice as well as have a working knowledge of critical care delivery.

Core Job Responsibilities

Critical Response Activities-Assumes responsibility for emergency code response, taking a lead role in delivery of quality nursing care, while monitoring for improvement and educational opportunity. Systematically and continuously collects, documents, and assesses data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic care for the patient and family

Quality Performance - Oversee the quality improvement initiatives associated with rapid response and code response. Ensures patient issues are promptly and correctly addressed by maintaining a cooperative relationship among the healthcare team. Ensures practice is most current with regulatory requirements as well as following best practice guidelines.

Leadership and Education- Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice related to codes and emergency response, and assumes responsibility for the professional development of self, staff, and students. Demonstrates leadership in patient advocacy; multidisciplinary collaboration; and communication with patients, families and professionals responding to emergencies. Develops, implements and documents education plans and competency tools in conjunction with the Education Department.

Coaching and development- Creates action plans for departments and individuals based on metrics and performance standards. In conjunction with Director, develops work improvement plans and coaching documentation as needs based on performance monitors.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Related Field

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in area of specialty

PREFERRED:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Related Field

  • Five years of critical care or emergency department experience

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of New York

PREFERRED:

  • Certification in area of specialty- Emergency or Critical Care
