Manager of Radiation Oncology - Full Time - Days

Department: RADIATION MEDICINE

Job Summary

The Manager Radiation Oncology assumes twenty-four (24) hour responsibilities in managing the operation and function of the medical radiation department, including patient registration, radiation oncology and radiation therapy; oversees the day-to-day operations, staff supervision and communication and collaboration with providers, physicist, dosimetry, radiation therapists, clinical staff, patient registration, etc. Supports the values and goals of the Cancer Program, the department and the hospital. Works under the general direction of the Radiation Oncology Medical Director, the Executive Director of the Cancer Program or designee.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Manage day to day operations

  • Manage, supervise and coordinate delivery of optimal patient care.

  • Accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff including ensuring that orders, treatments and plans of care are being carried out in a manner supportive of patient care and recovery.

  • Ensure unit compliance with Commission on Cancer (COC) and American College of Radiology (ACR) standards and regulations.

  • Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures designed to improve operational efficiency and quality.

  • Implement the area’s strategic and operational plans.

  • Ensure staffing and scheduling supports efficient, high quality and cost effective patient care.

  • Deliver a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in the development of clinical standards that is collaborative, collegial and utilizes current trends and data in professional practice.

  • Consult and coordinate with other departments to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to care.

  • Serve as a clinical resource, professional role model and mentor to staff. Serve as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition. Promote customer service in all interactions.

  • In partnership with Cancer Center Leadership and Human Resources, make decisions or recommendations related to performance management, hiring, transfers, corrective actions, terminations, etc. Resolve staff issues and grievances in a fair, timely and consistent manner.

  • Ensure documentation of patient care is complete and accurate.

  • Lead safety and performance improvement activities.

  • Ensure timely, complete and positive resolution to customer complaints.

  • Evaluate staff clinical competencies. Develop programs that foster continued clinical development to positively impact patient care and career satisfaction of staff.

  • Participate in capital equipment purchases and budget planning; monitor budgets and expenses; makes modifications.

  • Monitors staff paid time off, medical leave, and prepares payroll

  • Ensure the availability of supplies and equipment.

  • Serves as point person for issues regarding patient care, troubleshooting of equipment. Provides patient care as needed

  • Works closely with director on service contracts

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, a related field or equivalent work experience

  • Lead Radiation Therapist experience

  • Prior supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competency in area.

  • Proven ability to lead, guide and motivate staff.

  • Proficient with ARIA, Epic EMR, Work Force Management (WFM), MIDAS

PREFERRED:

  • Familiarity with Commission on Cancer Standards (COC)

  • Familiarity with American College of Radiology (ACR) standards

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Certified Radiation Therapist from ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist)

  • New York State License as Radiation Therapist

  • Current CPR certification.
