Summary: The Forklift Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of forklift and pallet jack trucks to ensure their safe and efficient operation. They play a crucial role in ensuring that all makes & models of forklift trucks are in proper working condition, minimizing downtime, and maximizing productivity. This role requires excellent mechanical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform routine maintenance to include regular inspections, lubrications, and preventative maintenance on forklift trucks to ensure optimal performance and extend their lifespan. This includes checking fluid levels, changing filters, replacing worn-out parts, and cleaning components .

  • Troubleshoot and identify problems with forklift trucks, such as engine malfunctions, electrical system failures, hydraulic system leaks, and brake issues. Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to determine the root case of the problem and perform the necessary repairs.

  • Inspect forklift trucks for safety compliance, including checking for any damaged or worn-out parts, ensuring proper functioning of safety features, and verifying that all systems are operational. Document and report any safety concerns or non-compliance issues.

  • Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair work performed on each forklift truck. This includes logging completed repairs, parts used, and any recommendations for future maintenance and/or repairs. Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and supplies.

  • Act promptly to address breakdowns or emergency situations involving forklift trucks. Prioritize repairs based on urgency and impact on operations.

  • Stay updated on new technologies, industry standards and safety regulations related to forklift trucks. Continuously improve knowledge and skills through training and professional development opportunities.

    Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED;

  • 1-3 years related experience in repair and maintenance of forklift trucks;

  • Experience in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics preferred.

  • Read and understand electrical and hydraulic system schematics.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to other employees of organization.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Computer Skills:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Vehicle Maintenance planning & tracking software (EAM) system.

  • Omnitracs and Diagnostic software.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current valid driver's license.

  • ANSI Certifications

  • ASE certification preferred but not required.

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate a forklift and electric jack.

  • Knowledge of welding, plasma cutter and cutting torch.
