A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Civil Engineering Intern position in the Global Utility Division. We are looking for a highly driven individual who will be an active participant in contributing to the goals of the NA Steel Design Engineering team while learning best practices from some of the finest Engineers in the world. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role and will be given exposure to other parts of the business, including subject matter experts from a wide variety of divisions and professions.

Valmont’s internship program's mission is to enable a rising workforce to advance the success of Valmont’s global operations. We do this through recruiting and retaining top talent, opportunities for professional development and mentorship, and real-world projects alongside practical coaching.

This position is scheduled to start at the beginning of summer 2025, with full-time hours during the summer. There is the potential to continue part-time through the fall and spring semesters.

Essential Functions:

  • Actively learn the basics of steel transmission pole design

  • Assist in design documents revision and loading tests

  • Work with a design team that consists of one or more individuals from Manufacturing, Procurement, Service, Quality Assurance, and Engineering Services getting exposure to different angles of team development including the process used

  • Apply knowledge from university classroom learning to real-world structural engineering practice

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Junior standing (to be senior after summer) pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • CAD skills including design applications and converting drawings to 3D models

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint application

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated problem-solving/critical thinking skills

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Completion of undergraduate-level steel structure design course

  • Completion of basic finite element analysis course

  • Previous internship related to civil engineering
