Continental Shipping Handler in Valparaiso, Indiana

As a Shipping Handler, you will:

  • Perform final packaging of all freight and small parcel shipments according to DOT regulations and customer demand.

  • Follow checklists for each machine and piece of equipment being shipped.

  • Verify accuracy of quantities and complete checklist for each order, reporting any discrepancies to the Shipping Team Lead/Production Team Lead.

  • Load all outgoing freight shipments according to DOT regulations with use of fork truck.

  • Build and assemble wooden crates and pallets as needed.

  • Perform daily planned maintenance checks on equipment (pallet jack, hoist), reporting findings daily to the Shipping Team Lead.

  • Maintain dock area, keeping it clean and free of debris.

  • Ensure inbound/outbound shipments on loading dock are segregated to avoid confusion on items being shipped and material needing to be distributed.

  • Perform additional ad hoc assembly tasks as assigned.

Hours: 1st shift position. Additional overtime may be permitted when carrier is running late or during peak operational times (example: end of the month).

The position will report to the Shipping Team Lead at the start of shift to define orders that need to be shipped/prepped during hours of operation and learn additional information/instructions related to the work to be performed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS – SHIPPING HANDLER 1

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Minimum of 1 year of shipping handler experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Willingness to work 9-hour shift.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Continental is not able to pay relocation expenses for this opportunity.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS – SHIPPING HANDLER 2

All basic qualifications required for Shipping Handler 1, and:

  • Minimum of 3 years of shipping handler experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to perform tasks outside of department as needed.

  • Experience operating a forklift and/or pallet jack.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with UPS/FedEx shipping applications.

  • Basic Microsoft applications, including Teams, Word, Excel.

  • General understanding of basic safety procedures.

  • Experience with ERP tool.

  • Experience operating hoists.
