Vancouver Public Schools Elementary Music & Middle School Choir Teacher in Vancouver, Washington

For the 2024-25 school year

Part Time Position (0.4 FTE)

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for assignment

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning; Master's preferred

  • Extensive background in both vocal and instrumental music

  • Highly skilled in vocal music to include music theory and composition, personal performance history as a soloist or group participant, and familiarity with instrumental music instruction

  • Successful teaching experience including instruction, student management, maintaining instrument and equipment inventory, music library and program organization is preferred

  • Successful teaching experience including standards-based instruction, formative and summative assessment, student management, and organization

  • Must have teaching expertise in a variety of instruments

  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of instrumental music literature and performance practices

  • Proficiency in the use and application of music technology

  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse

  • Advanced abillity to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool

  • Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives

Essential Functions:

  • Provides instruction in general music, including Orff and Kodaly programs

  • Works collaboratively in a performing arts environment

  • Conducts and/or directs large and small ensembles

  • Demonstrates performance proficiency on a primary musical instrument

  • Works with students in extra-curricular settings

  • Coordinates events, tours, and fund-raising activities

  • Maintains effective classroom management within a positive learning environment

  • Works with classroom teachers and arts specialists to deliver integrated instruction

  • Demonstrates a vision that is progressive, innovative, and shows a commitment to excellence

  • Demonstrates a record of positive leadership including motivation, patience, high morale, esprit de corps, active listening, respect, and flexibility

  • Demonstrates commitment to excellence in productions and exhibitions and provides opportunities for performances of student work

  • Must have adequate personal transportation and be able to travel between schools

  • Communicates effectively with all stakeholders of the school community

  • Acitvely engage students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities

  • Works in a flexible and cooperative manner

  • Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times

  • Serves as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students

  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements

  • Other duties as assigned

Benefits/Compensation:

  • Salary range: $62,925 - $118,608 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here (https://vansd.org/salary-schedules/) .

  • Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement.   • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
