Thompson Metal Fab Project Manager in Vancouver, Washington

Thompson Metal Fab is a well-established veteran-owned heavy structural steel and plate fabrication business in Vancouver, WA. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee and manage project scheduling and budgeting. Review contracts, proposals, and drawings to assess timelines, financial limits, staffing needs, and procedures. Ensure optimal resource allocation through each phase to meet objectives. Facilitate clear communication with clients, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams, fostering alignment and swiftly resolving project issues. Possess a builder's mentality to facilitate production.

Responsibilities: Understand and be able to perform the following tasks/subjects:

  • Positively represent TMF to clients and act as a liaison between the client and TMF departments.
  • Determine project schedule and communicate to shop and other departments.
  • Manage and communicate complex budgets, change orders, and adjustments to project scope.
  • Drive the processes needed for successful project completion in an organized and consistent manner.
  • Thoroughly review drawings to ensure accuracy and adherence to project specs before production commences.
  • Create project work-back schedules, identifying milestones and timelines.
  • Coordinate purchasing of material to maintain established schedule.
  • Manage material tickets, nesting lists, and packing lists for submittal to shop.
  • Organize and oversee the delivery schedule and transportation logistics, ensuring timely and efficient movements.
  • Coordinate delivery schedule and transportation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience, Education:

  • Must be a team player as well as a self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Maintain composure in high-pressure environments and exhibit strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stay organized while overseeing multiple projects with the ability to prioritize competing needs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with diverse groups of people to achieve goals.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of software. Experience with CAD software and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Capable of interpreting fabrication drawings and understanding basic fabrication terminology.
  • Capable of establishing, maintaining, and understanding schedules according to the needs of the project.
  • Basic knowledge of steel fabrication standards (AISC, ASME, API, AWS) as well as related ASTM standards.
  • Experience managing ASME-certified projects is preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of steel fabrication standards.
  • A minimum of 5 years as a Project Manager in the steel fabrication industry is required.

Work Environment: Primarily indoors (80%) in a climate-controlled office setting. Approximately 20% of time will be spent in a steel fabrication shop or outdoor environments, with exposure to varying temperatures, vibrations, humidity, chemicals, dust, low lighting, and noise. Occasional field visits may also be required, during which exposure to typical Washington State weather conditions should be expected.
