Working at our Vandalia Facilities

Our Vandalia facility is located 50 minutes north of the GE Aerospace headquarters and sits just north of the city of Dayton—known widely as the birthplace of aviation—where the Wright Brothers built the world’s first aircraft in their bicycle shop in the heart of downtown Dayton. This business boasts a rich history, in operation for over 100 years. At over 140,000 square feet, the Vandalia facility rests on 25 acres right off Interstate 75.

At GE Aerospace in Vandalia, we specialize in manufacturing and servicing world-class power generation and electrical control and distribution equipment for a variety of military and commercial customers. Vandalia is also home to a product development lab where operators and engineers work together to invent the future of flight.

Role Overview:

The Lead Lean Specialist reports into the Site Lean Leader. This role partners with pillar leaders and project managers to deliver understanding and execution of the Lean Methodology in alignment with the site route map and master plan. The position will be the driver of continuous improvement and provide leadership to the departments and pillar leaders. The Lead Lean Specialist plays an important role in the Lean journey through engagement with all levels of the organization.

Lean Transformation Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead lean transformations within manufacturing cells to improve process quality and create capacity by reducing cycle time, inventory, and waste

  • Establish site lean standards for visual management, 5S, daily management, etc.

  • Champion Kaizen Events that impact product flow, production to TAKT, and inventory turns

  • Teach, promote, and practice the lean principles and tools

  • Lead Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events to identify process wastes and to develop and implement corrective actions

  • Create Standardized Work Instructions, layouts, and process flow diagrams

  • Facilitate functional managers in establishing process flow by implementing visual management tools and methods to pull product through the work cells

  • Apply Lean Six Sigma tools to improve process capability and eliminate defects

  • Coach teams using the focused improvement tools and problem solving

Lean Culture Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate, train, and coach team members in the use of the GE Aviation Production system, Lean, and Problem-solving tools

  • Lead the transformation of the manufacturing environment through Kaizens and focused problem solving

  • Educate, coach, and mentor others on Lean/WCM philosophy and application

  • Lead Kaizen activities and workshops related to the following:

  • Problem Solving – including 5W+1H, 5 Why’s, and TWTTP

  • Focused Improvement and Problem Solving

  • Workplace Organization – including 5S, Std. Work, and Golden Zone

  • Total Productive Maintenance – including autonomous and preventative

  • Logistics – including 5T, Kanban, and Heijunka

  • Integrate Daily Management through all levels of organization

  • Identify potential process improvement projects and execute on areas of opportunities to support plants and product groups in supporting their customer(s)

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 7 years of experience in Manufacturing, Lean Management, and/or Continuous Improvement)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing, Lean Management, and/or Continuous Improvement; or graduation from a GE Leadership program

  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics, or Industrial Technology

  • Strong leadership and project management experience

  • Experience with Lean Transformation, Lean Implementation, and Change Management, including Kaizen methods and loss/waste elimination

  • Experience working in, implementing, or training in Toyota Production System, GE Flight Deck, or comparable Continuous Improvement methodologies
