Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is work involving the provision of health support services performing general clinical and laboratory support two days per week, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Direct Services: Performs the following functions in assigned clinics – takes and records patient temperature, pulse, weight, height, and blood pressures. Prepares patient for examination and assists the practitioner as necessary. Certified in phlebotomy, collects, and prepares laboratory specimens and performs routine tests, i.e., hemoglobin/hematocrits and urine tests. Performs venipunctures, collects, and prepares specimens in proper tubes and makes ready for laboratory pickup. Documents accurately and thoroughly in patient’s record and, as required, other locations, i.e., laboratory log.

Supportive Services: Maintains a clean and safe environment, adequate supplies, and equipment in exam rooms, laboratory, and surrounding work areas. Inventories and orders lab and clinic supplies as needed.

Participates in educational activities including clinic education, community programs, patient education, in-service programs, and continuing education as assigned.

Access to confidential records and computer access will be based on the need to know when involved in specific patient’s care, billing activities, ordering prescribed medications or supplies, investigating communicable disease reports established quality improvement activities, i.e., peer review, records review audits, and investigating complaints.

Uses knowledge of quality improvement (QI) methods and processes to work with other staff to help identify opportunities for improvement and develop a culture of quality within DOH-Indian River; assists in improvement projects, as assigned.

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.

  • Skill in interviewing clients to obtain needed information and recording information in clients’ chart.

  • Skill in phlebotomy and collecting lab specimens. Trained to pack and ship lab specimens properly.

  • Ability to operate and navigate computer using necessary systems and software and standard office equipment and supplies.

  • Ability to interview clients and obtain medical information, recording information in state health systems.

  • Ability to interview clients maintaining confidentiality, building rapport and trust to provide the care they need.

  • Ability to plan and follow instructions.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum:

  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural

  • Phlebotomy Certification

  • Certified Nursing Assistant with at least one year of experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • At least one year of experience in phlebotomy
