Summary/Objective

Dignitas is seeking a Training Specialist AC&R. This position will support the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCPD) and their missions’ to enable research, development, test and evaluation, acquisition, engineering, systems integration, in-service and fleet engineering with cybersecurity, comprehensive logistics, and life-cycle savings. We are looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to provide engineering, technical, logistics, and obsolescence support to U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army, and Foreign Military Sales ships and vessels related to the following systems and equipment: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (AC&R) systems for U.S. Navy submarines – both in-service and new construction. and equipment support.

The Mechanical Engineer position will design, evaluate, plan, test and operate mechanical equipment and systems for commercial, government, military and/or scientific uses. The candidate's primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Creating mechanical designs and drawings

  • Writing precise calculations

  • Creating and testing prototypes for functionality

  • Re-engineering products when problems are found and recalculating for the return of products to full functionality

  • Preparing reports and documentation for leadership

  • Perform obsolescence evaluation and assist with finding replacements

This is a fast-growing program with opportunity for growth and advancement. While the opportunity for hybrid work is available candidates need to be local to attend meetings, complete in office and test site work as required. This can be either a full time or part time position based on the candidate's needs. Seeking candidates in Norfolk, VA.

Desired Skills and Requirements

  • Experience with equipment design principles

  • Familiarity with 2D/3D engineering design & manufacturing tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor)

  • Experience reviewing models and drawings for manufacturability of parts

  • Experience with documentation development including drawings, technical manuals (operation, assembly, troubleshooting, and repair), bill of materials

  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner

  • Familiarity military specifications for technical design

  • Experience working with detailed specifications under configuration management

  • Experience interfacing directly with US military technical representatives

  • Experience working with equipment suppliers and vendors

  • Shipboard experience as an operator / maintainer is a plus

    Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities but can occasionally be expected to direct and assist junior engineers and interns.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Ten (10) years of experience in Steam and Auxiliary systems including mechanical/electrical system design, repair, installation, modification, operation, maintenance and testing with an understanding of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (AC&R) mechanical systems

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Ability to obtain a Security Clearance

Must be a US Citizen
