About the Opportunity

We are looking for an Application Engineer who is passionate about network automation, thrives on close collaboration with cross-functional teams and critical technical challenges, and has customer obsession in mind. The right candidate will demonstrate an innovative and informed perspective, develop pragmatic yet flexible solutions and move forward in the face of ambiguity. The candidate should be willing to build good working relationships within the team and across the Federal Reserve System.

You will, have good knowledge of network automation, DevOps patterns, and mature CICD processes that will help build the next generation of services that enable self-healing for our systems and minimize the work required to deploy and validate the network.

You will work in an agile environment as a hands-on technical engineer responsible for all phases of the project development cycle.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform development, testing, implementation, and review of complex automation solutions specifically related to metrics and monitoring in a network and security infrastructure environment.

  • For network and security infrastructure perform the following duties:

  • Define and develop metrics for determining and assuring network and security infrastructure health, stability, and reliability

  • Measure and optimize network and security infrastructure performance

  • Provide programming support for complex infrastructure solutions

  • Develop software from established requirements

  • Deploy code in accordance with standards and policies

  • Formulate and execute pre-release requirements, including load and performance testing

  • Contribute to the design of technology infrastructure and configurations, recommend process improvements.

  • Support and troubleshoot production issues as they relate to automation or need for automation, and recommend changes in development, process, and standards.

  • Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market for all network and security infrastructure activity.

  • Build software and systems to manage network and security infrastructure.

  • Write and maintain technical documentation, including use cases, misuse cases, and scripts.

  • Conduct technical research and maintain viable knowledge of technology trends.

  • Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market for all network and security infrastructure activity.

  • Partner with other FRS development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures.

  • Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts.

  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives.

  • Participate in cross-functional team initiatives and process improvement projects.

  • May require extended work hours, on-call status, and occasional travel including overnight stays (15% or less)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems or relevant technical field.

  • 1-3 years of experience for Associate or 3+ years of experience for Experienced with the following skillsets:

  • Automation and engineering in large, complex environments with at least 3,000 network and security infrastructure devices (e.g., switches, routers, firewalls) supported by automation.

  • Event, fault, and performance management

  • Network orchestration in policy-based or software defined methods, skill with Ansible is preferred

  • Python programming skill and experience with one or more languages, such as Java, C/C++, or JavaScript.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks.

  • Demonstrated ability in coding and maintaining automation services.

  • Strong analytical ability and technical skill, as well as the ability to provide innovative solutions to technical infrastructure needs and business requirements.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in making business decisions.

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of data integrity and accuracy.

  • Proficient oral and written communication, ability to interact on required information and concepts with people at all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency translating highly technical information into non-technical terms.

  • Broad knowledge of the concepts, practices, and principles of programming including design, implementation, and testing.

  • The Associate national hiring range is $73,600-$101,200 annually.

  • The Experienced national hiring range is $90,200-$123,970 annually.

  • For candidates in certain markets (Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; New York City Metro Area, Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA), the listed hiring and salary ranges may be adjusted based on your geographic location.

  • Salary offered will be based on the job responsibilities and the individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience as defined in the job qualifications.
