Ithaca College ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – HISTORY in United States

Position Summary

The History Department in Ithaca College’s School of Humanities and Sciences invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Early American and/or Atlantic World History before 1830, to begin with the Fall 2025 semester. The successful candidate will develop a curriculum centered in American history from the colonial to the early national period; strong preference will be given to candidates whose teaching treats early American History expansively within a broader Atlantic context and includes other thematic specializations that complement those of the current faculty.

Position Responsibilities

The selected candidate will normally teach five four-credit courses per year. Ability to teach first half of US survey and Colonial and Revolutionary era US is required. While excellence in teaching is the top priority for all faculty at Ithaca College, a productive research program including peer-reviewed publications is also a criterion for tenure. In addition to teaching and scholarship, all Ithaca College faculty are expected to be engaged college citizens, who participate in service at the level of the Department, as well as at the level of the School, College, local community, or profession.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in History or appropriate area studies must be awarded by time of appointment. Teaching experience and a strong research profile are required.

Department Description

The Department of History is a vibrant community of teachers, scholars, staff, and students, with a wide range of expertise. Our classes are small (10-27 students). Our more than 70 majors and minors earn BA’s in one of the classic and most diverse liberal arts disciplines, often majoring and/or minoring in other fields. Our graduates have gone on to rewarding careers in law, teaching, museum curation and archives, city and regional planning, corporate finance, community organizing, journalism, and more.

Hiring Range:

$62,000 - $66,000, dependent on discipline, qualifications and experience.
