Job Description

The Associate Professor or Professor & Associate Dean oversees and provides leadership and support for the academic unit of the College. The individual will work closely with the Department Head and also assist the Dean with academic-related matters including promotion and tenure decisions, and is responsible for quality assurance of administrative matters handled by the office. The ideal candidate should be at minimum an Associate Professor (preferably Full Professor) and tenure eligible upon arrival.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies, in consultation with the Dean, for allocation of resources, management, and support structures to implement the College's action plan and enforce policies for education and resulting improvements in metrics for student admission, retention, graduation, and career development including experiential learning. Curriculum expansion, new delivery modalities, and enrollment growth for both undergraduate and graduate programs are immediate priorities. Makes recommendations to the Dean on all academic matters especially faculty recruitment, retention, compensation, and promotion and tenure. Represents the College at various committee meetings and functions; supervises administrative and support staff and leads the establishment of faculty committees in areas including recruitment, retention, scholarships, and development. Maintains currency and compliance with guidelines for all functioning committees. Promotes faculty governance and student-centeredness.

  • Manages the administration of funds and procedures relating to the academic mission of the College's financial operations, including reporting and policy implementation. Ensures that administrative matters are carried out effectively and efficiently. Collects various data and assembles information concerning enrollment trends and other key metrics which can be used to inform better decisions. Promotes the image and brand of the College to alumni, donors, and other stakeholders. Develops funding opportunities for faculty, administration, and staff, and coordinates accreditation studies and activities. In collaboration with other mission area leaders (research and extension, respectively), coordinates research and outreach efforts to include grant/proposal submissions and compliance. Monitors and mentor’s tenure-track faculty on all aspects of the promotion/tenure process.

  • Provide training to faculty, administration, and staff. Monitors semester course offerings in terms of faculty assignment, enrollment numbers, number of offerings, time of offerings, and size of classes. Oversees and assists with the coordination of curriculum/degree plans for the College of Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources to ensure currency and degree relevancy. Coordinates and actively participates in student recruitment and retention programs to ensure successful enrollment targets. Receives, reviews, investigates and resolves faculty and student complaints. Develops and maintains a public information and support system for and among alumni of the College. If time and interest permit, teach undergraduate level courses in the College. Works effectively with the Executive Associate Director of Research, and with the Executive Associate Director of Extension to facilitate student success and mission integration.

  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as deemed necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctorate Degree in an area represented in the College.

  • 8 years of relevant experience.

  • A strong record of research and teaching excellence that would qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor and tenure eligible upon hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of pedagogy, research, and the land grant missions.

  • Knowledge of information technology apps, and online, digital tools and platforms.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
