Overview:

The AV Technician will provide specialized AV technical support for events, activities, and classes. This role will be responsible for managing Advanced AV and Lighting systems in the S-Block; Gym 1, Gym 2, S-Block Classrooms (Drama, Music, Dance Studios), Grandstand, Swimming Pools, and Apex Gym etc. This person will be part of a larger group of schoolwide support with IT and Theater who all support each other on an adhoc basis.

Key Duties:

  • Provide set-up and technical support for events

  • Train teachers and support staff on AV equipment usage across S Block to encourage independent use, and develop relevant paperwork and Standard

  • Operating Procedures to support self sufficiency.

  • Work with Facilities to ensure the correct equipment is in the correct location at the correct time for portable set ups

  • Collaborate with IT and Theater to share workloads when necessary.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve AV issues across designated locations.

  • Create and manage a weekly schedule based on school event needs.

  • Support large-scale events across campus, such as Friday Night Lights and the International Fair.

  • Propose AV improvements in areas of responsibility, working with end users to find suitable solutions.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and manage contractors for repairs/replacements.

  • Provide support to the theater department for presentations and events when possible.

  • Lead a new wing of the Tech Club to train and mentor students for event support outside the theater with support of the Theater Coordinator.

  • Manage the S-Block AV operations and expenditure budgets assigned to maintain and improve equipment in your domain.

  • Be responsible for the sourcing of quotes and recommendations for AV maintenance and improvements

  • Any other appropriate roles and responsibilities as specified by the Theater Coordinator

    Operating Hours:

  • Flexible hours ranging from 7 AM to 10 PM, Monday to Saturday, depending on events.

  • 40 hours per week, with overtime as required by the schedule.

  • Comfortable coordinating with multiple people and departments.

  • Adaptable to last-minute changes in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-sufficient.

  • Willing to seek help when necessary.

    Required Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in AV within an event-based setting.

  • Basic understanding of theatrical lighting.

  • Knowledge of permanent and temporary AV setups.

  • Proficiency in setting up portable PA systems.

  • Familiarity with operating digital sound desks for presentations.

  • Experience in troubleshooting lighting and AV systems

  • Experience with budgets and funding proposals.

  • Competence with Google Workspace.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Strong understanding of Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) requirements.

  • Comfortable working with students.

    Desired Skills:

  • Work at height qualification (training will be provided if needed).

  • Vertical Platform Lift qualification (training will be provided if needed).
