Purpose

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for the management of key technical functions to support mine site operations.

Essential Duties

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • Ensure effective implementation of key safety initiatives such as critical control verification audits, five point safety system, job task analysis, and planned inspections within the Technical Services Departments

  • Thorough understanding and consistent application of the fatality risk management program

  • Develop risk assessment and hazard operations review processes and skills within Musselwhite Mine

  • Responsible for the technical services deliverables of Engineering and production geology

  • Ensure integration of fatality risk management in departments activities and deliverables

  • Complete performance reviews for Technical Services Department

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses and determine appropriate training requirements

  • Identify and develop succession candidates and their development needs

  • Facilitate creative thinking sessions to insure Musselwhite strategy is evolving as necessary with the alignment of Musselwhite management

  • Facilitate planning sessions to coordinate projects requiring complicated interaction between many groups

  • Ensure a consistent flow of resource generation, reserve determination, life-of-mine planning, budgeting, and detailed mine planning and quality control for mine operations

  • Ensure projects priorities are identified

  • Ensure an awareness of key Musselwhite project and permitting schedules and that schedule deadlines are achieved

  • Ensure key project risks and opportunities are identified and mitigation plans developed

  • Ensure that operations have full integrated technical support

  • Ensure operational priorities are identified and built into long- and medium-term plans

  • Ensure areas of engineering risk and opportunity are identified in a timely manner so that necessary engineering can be completed prior to mining

  • Ensure the necessary quality control is in place to insure safe operation, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and maximum value creation

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or Applied Science

  • Minimum 8 years of mine operation and technical experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a leadership role

  • Be technically competent and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold mining

  • Able to inspire, mentor, and grow Technical Services Heads of Department and high potential employees

  • Have strong communication and people skills

  • Able to listen

  • Be open and able to lead change

  • Be focused, clear, and decisive

  • Able to impact and influence in order to gain the alignment of the Musselwhite Mine Management and Technical Services Department

Working Conditions

Where you will be located!

  • This position will be based in Thunder Bay, ON. Preferred work schedule for this position is 4 days on, 3 days off, working at the Fly-In/ Fly-Out Musselwhite Mine location.
