Qualifications: The Director of Didactic Education and Principal Faculty, Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine (Clinician Educator) position is a 12-month full-time non-tenure track clinical faculty appointment with administrative responsibilities. The individual should hold a master’s degree, preferably a doctorate. Individuals not in possession of a master’s degree, but with exceptional educational and/or clinical experience may be considered with the expectation that at least a master’s degree be completed as a condition of continued employment. PA Principal Faculty must hold current NCCPA certification, and must be licensed to practice in the State of California. Non-Physician Assistants may be considered for this role, but must have appropriate degrees and/or credentials that are related to their area of expertise at the master’s degree level or higher. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of three years clinical experience and a minimum of 5 years teaching experience preferably in a physician assistant education. Faculty must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and should demonstrate consistency in: interpersonal, leadership, and management skills. Director of Didactic Education Job Responsibilities: The Director of Didactic Education is responsible for oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Program Director. Faculty should chair the curriculum committee and accreditation self-study committee that focuses on curriculum. Additional responsibilities include:
Serve as principal leader in Program Director’s absence
Provide mentoring to faculty related to teaching, course direction and other related teaching activities
Oversee, monitor and maintain the curriculum including curricular mapping.
Supervise and recommend curriculum revisions as needed
Supervise the calendar for all curricular activities
Work with the Program Director to develop, provide or identify appropriate faculty development opportunities
Support the program in meeting accreditation requirements
Serve as the primary program spokesperson with university curricular changes, surveys, etc.
Review annual faculty and course evaluations and support quality improvement across both areas
Encourage educational research and state/national presentations by faculty
Track performance of students during didactic phase
Provide oversight and guidance to course directors
Recommend and implement revisions to program policies and procedures related to the program curriculum.
Principal Faculty Job Responsibilities: Principal Faculty are charged with insuring that all student and course-related activities are delivered in a means that is consistent with Program and University policies. Principal Faculty responsibilities include:
Collaboration in all Program policies and decision-making processes
Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the Program’s mission statement
Teaching in the didactic and clinical phases of the Program
Provision of remedial instruction as needed
Course instructional design, development, implementation, and coordination
Evaluation and assessment of students
Evaluation and assessment of curriculum and program
Student advisement and counseling
Scholarly activities, e.g., research, professional presentations, etc.
Service to the Program and University, e.g., committees, volunteerism, etc.
Participation in the selection process of entering students
Participation in grant related activities
Knowledge regarding all facets of, and participation in, the ARC-PA accreditation process
Assist in clinical site development and monitoring as needed
Computer skills, e.g., Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
Learning Support Services
Evaluation of student challenges related to academic performance
Provide counseling and guidance related to study skills, time management, content understanding
Provide above support services to students throughout didactic and clinical phases of curriculum
Collaborate with program course directors and university resources if needed, based on student learning needs
Program Principal Faculty who serve as course directors have the following additional responsibilities:
Organization of the course
Scheduling of lectures
Analyzing all course related data to ensure that learner outcomes are achieved
Generate an annual report that reflects the strengths and weaknesses of the course
Student assessment, and counseling regarding course progress and referral to the Student Progress Committee as appropriate
All other duties as assigned.
The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $135,000.
