HashiCorp Engineer II - Backend - HCP Terraform (Nexus) in United States

About the team

HCP Terraform, a leading provider of cloud infrastructure automation solutions, is seeking talented Software Engineers to join our product development teams. In this role, you will play a key part in building innovative products that meet the evolving needs of our growing customer base.

On the Terraform Nexus team, you will have the opportunity to work on crucial internal and external integrations (VCS, Notifications, etc) that enable HCP Terraform to operate seamlessly. This role will allow you to directly contribute to enhancing the functionality and performance of our platform, impacting how users interact with and benefit from our services.

About the role

We’re looking for a Software Engineer II to join our team. The majority of the software we build and maintain is written in either Ruby (Ruby on Rails) or Golang, but we also do a bit of frontend development using Ember.js. Some of that software is also open source or source-available, receiving contributions from a community of users. You will help review, fix, design, prototype, and implement features and tools while ensuring stability, scalability, and usability. You will interact regularly with collaborators on other teams (even outside of R&D) to deliver multi-team engineering efforts. This is an opportunity to have an impact not just on the productivity and lives of developers, but on improving an industry as a whole.

We operate autonomously in a highly collaborative, remote-first environment. Anchored by pragmatism, reflection, and humility, we’re steadily improving our processes and technical practices. With the support of your teammates and manager, you’ll grow your skills to reach the next level in your career.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Own small to medium-sized customer facing projects, judiciously evaluate trade-offs, and remove project blockers

  • Continuously improve the product by writing code in systems written in Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, and Golang

  • Collaborate remotely on a cross-functional team including Engineering, Product, and Design to deliver excellent customer experiences

  • Maintain reliable production applications for our customers while working alongside infrastructure engineering

  • Empathize with the end user and be their voice when influencing priorities and technical decisions

  • Participate in cross-team working groups while developing your knowledge as a subject matter expert

  • Enable your teammates through technical contributions, code reviews, and pairing

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to determine and prioritize new features and enhancements

You should apply to join the team if:

  • You have 2+ years of professional experience maintaining cloud-hosted production systems

  • You have experience developing backend applications using Ruby (preferably), Golang, Java, or Python

  • You have some experience developing frontend applications using Ember.js (preferably) or React

  • You demonstrate ownership in the software you ship

  • You strive for quality through maintainable code and comprehensive testing from development to deployment

  • You eagerly take on new challenges and are driven to deliver the highest quality solutions for customers

  • You communicate clearly while remaining empathetic and kind

  • You have an eagerness to learn
