FEV North America, Inc Engineering Assistant (Intern) 1D/3D Simulation of Engine & Hybrid Powertrain in United States

FEV is seeking an Engineering Assistant (Intern) in the field of 1D/3D thermodynamic simulation of engine and hybrid powertrain systems. FEV offers interested students the opportunity to work in highly motivated engineering teams. Each engineering assistant is part of a team, receives project tasks and responsibilities within the team, participates in internal FEV training and experience sharing activities, is mentored and supervised by an experienced project engineer. Because of the complexity of the tasks encountered in the daily job, FEV prefers internship duration of 6 months to 1 year.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supporting 1D model-based engine and aftertreatment system development

  • Supporting 1D model-based vehicle propulsion and thermal system development

  • Supporting 1D model-based fuel cell system development

  • Supporting 3D CFD analysis of engine combustion system

  • Supporting 3D CFD analysis of battery, motor and inverter cooling system

  • Supporting development of control algorithms for hybrid propulsion system

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates pursuing a Bachelor or higher degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or related field

  • Working knowledge of at least one 1D/3D thermodynamic analysis tool (GT-SUITE, Amesim, Converge, StarCCM+, Ansys or similar)

  • Understanding of engine and hybrid powertrain systems

  • Must be a motivated team player to perform in fast paced development environment

  • Good communicator (oral and written), organized, and mindful of time management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates pursuing Graduate degree in mechanical engineering

  • Multiple 1D/3D thermodynamic modeling tool experience

  • Knowledge of diesel engine and aftertreatment systems

  • Working knowledge of Matlab/Simulink

  • Background in hybrid powertrain system controls

  • Prefer US Citizenship due to government defense projects
