Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is seeking a talented civil or electrical engineering student for a summer (2025) internship. Under the guidance of multiple experienced engineers and designers, the successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of utility distribution design. The position will involve data collection and assisting senior engineers and designers with performing engineering consulting services in distribution design, construction drawing creation, structural pole loading, equipment sizing, and material specification on medium voltage systems for a wide range of electric utility clients including, co-ops, public utility districts, investor-owned utilities, and municipalities. As an intern, you will be assigned your own projects to complete from beginning to end of design during your internship with the help of talented mentors. You will prepare basic calculations, analyze systems using computer modeling, develop construction drawings, document design self-checks of your work, and incorporate reviewer comments on your work as part of POWER’s quality process.

In addition to working under the guidance of experienced team members, the selected intern will also participate in sessions designed to develop your skills and provide networking opportunities. Those sessions include:

  • Professional Development sessions focused on resume writing, interview tips, building a LinkedIn profile, and more.

  • Early Talent Speaker Series where leaders speak to interns about their role, their vision for the company, and their career path, offer career advice, and a Q&A session.

  • Fun Friday activities where interns company-wide join to network and have some fun while doing it.

Required Education/Experience

  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in civil or electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer literacy and the ability to learn new computer software efficiently.

  • Candidate is interested in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • For electrical engineers, completion of some electrical power courses such as power systems analysis or power systems protection.

  • For civil engineers, completion of some civil courses in soils or structural analysis.

  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills critical to successfully completing tasks.

  • Familiarity with design, drafting, or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc., as well as Microsoft Excel, is beneficial.
