Job Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator II, under general supervision, provides assistance in the management of the System member’s environmental health and safety program. The position coordinates within the full spectrum from preventative mitigation to assessment reporting as well as other related activities (ie: training, building proctor, and after-hours emergency response). The position supports all aspects of a full-service EHS program to ensure a safe, healthy and comfortable work environment for employees and visitors. The position adheres to requirements to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies, as well as Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates regular inspections and audits of facilities and ensures compliance. Provides reports, letters, information, and support to ensure correction of related violations, inadequacies, objectives, programs, etc.

  • Provides technical expertise to staff regarding hazard evaluations, recommendations, and follow-ups.

  • Presents programs, trainings, and briefings to personnel and various organizations on support and implementation of programs.

  • Maintains comprehensive manuals, guides, checklists, presentations, procedures, and policies for programs as well as the review of proposed research and sponsored program projects to determine impact on environmental health, safety, and risk management.

  • Ensures related equipment is maintained, tested, and inspected and that any mandated inspections are scheduled and accomplished on time.

  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and requirements.

  • Complies with regulatory agencies and National guidelines such as, but not limited to, Texas Department of Health (TDH), National Fire Protections Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

  • Provides support for the liaison relationship with varied regulatory agencies.

  • Performs and assists in the investigation of injury incidents that occur to employees and visitors administering preventive remedies to mitigate recurrence.

  • Must be able to promptly respond in person, on site, to after-hours emergencies.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain manuals and programs such as, but not limited to, emergency management and business continuity plans.

  • Conduct safety training as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline.

  • Experience – Two years of related experience in environmental health and safety.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master degree in Environmental Health and Safety or science related discipline.

  • Knowledge/experience in EHS programs at higher education setting.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Environmental health and safety rules, regulations, and standards.

    Ability to:

  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge and Abilities

  • NIMS IS Courses (100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800).

  • Knowledge of regulatory codes such as but not limited to NFPA, ADA, TCEQ, EPA, CFR 1910.

  • Familiar with Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) principles.

Licensing / Professional Certification – ( CSHO, CSP, CIH)

Physical Requirements – General Office Environment ( Lifting, walking, strenuous activities which may include climbing ladders, confined spaces, outdoor field work).

Supervision of Others

This position may supervise employees.

Other Responsibilities

  • Evening and/or weekend work may be required.

  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.

  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

  • On call for emergencies may be required.

  • Travel may be required. Valid driver’s license required.

Salary: $48,110.40/annually
