Description

County is seeking an experienced kitchen professional to join our food services and catering teams as a Food Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II. This permanent position is flexible between our Catering Connection and WorkCenter programs. We are looking for someone who can assist trainees in gaining essential kitchen knowledge. Bilingual skills in Spanish are highly desirable. Your experience in the culinary field can make a real difference in the lives of individuals with emotional, physical disabilities and other barriers, helping them gain valuable skills for future employment.

Position Details:

  • Location: Catering Connection, WorkCenter, and/or Navigation Center

  • Schedule: Will vary and depending on the needs of the department

  • Language: Highly desired Bilingual in Spanish – not required

There is currently one open position on the Catering Connection Team. The ideal candidates will have skills to work in Catering Connection.

Catering Connection Skills:

  • Supervisory experience working with people with disabilities/barriers in a kitchen environment.

  • Knowledge of production flows, quality control, proper food handling, hygiene and safety protocols.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attentive to detail during the daily performance of duties.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

  • The ability to meet scheduled deadlines.

  • Computer knowledge and experience.

  • Work effectively within or leading a team.

  • Possess excellent customer service skills.

  • Experience in effective report writing.

  • The ability to establish positive relationships with vendors and customers.

  • Ability to work overtime and holidays as needed for events or emergency situations.

  • Ability to be flexible in weekly schedules.

  • Two years of kitchen experience.

  • Possession of California Food Handler Certificate.

  • Ability to operate cash handling machine.

  • Ability to operate vehicles in a safe manner.

Examples Of Duties

Examples of Duties for Catering Connection may include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Instruct and supervise the work of individuals with barriers to employment which could include emotionally and physically disabled individuals with vocational barrier.

  • Select and assign clients to workshop activities based on their needs and capabilities; reassign work as necessary.

  • Instruct and train clients in various work and work-related behaviors and skills.

  • Observe, evaluate, and report on progress, attendance, and employment potential of clients; prepare written evaluations.

  • Model appropriate work behaviors and attitudes.

  • Confer with counselors to coordinate client programs, determine needs and capabilities of clients and handle client problems on the work floor; participate in client goal planning; work with clients to change inappropriate employment behaviors.

  • Ability to work in a very loud environment.

  • May supervise work performed at off-site locations.

  • Supervise the use of equipment for safe and proper operation; enforce safety regulations; check on and report safety violations.

  • Maintain quality assurance according to procedures.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Work effectively within a team.

  • Ensure that all products/services meet or exceed customer demands.

  • Work effectively with partners and maintain cohesive working relationships.

  • Ability to partner with other teams on site.

Qualifications

Food Services Option

Knowledge of:

  • Kitchen cleaning and sanitation methods.

  • Basic arithmetic.

  • Dietetic principles.

  • Proper lifting techniques.

  • Operation and care of kitchen equipment.

  • Safety principles and methods including rules of first aid.

Skill/Ability to:

  • Instruct and supervise others.

  • Develop creative, nutritious menus.

  • Keep records and progress reports.

  • Handle emergency situations and work rapidly under pressure.

  • Plan and operate a small scale food service facility.

  • Deal effectively and professionally with a wide range of individuals.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I: Experience working with staff involved in product or service delivery operation.

Rehabilitation Production Supervisor II: Two years of experience in an industrial production operation or rehabilitation WorkCenter including a supervisory assignment.

Open & Promotional. Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination. Responses to the supplemental questions must be submitted in addition to our regular employment application form.

The examination will consist of an interview (weight: 100%), which may include the evaluation of a brief written and/or performance exercise given immediately preceding the interview. Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations, or a screening committee may select those applicants whose education and/or experience appear to best meet the needs of the position. Because of the screening process, not all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.
