Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Fuels Scientific Lead to work in our Fuels PIE department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility with every Friday off. You will report to the deputy director over the Fuels PIE.
The Fuels Scientific Lead provides technical expertise to support development of the division scientific strategy.
Responsibilities Include:
- Engage with the ongoing research development activities for assigned nuclear facility at INL.
- Complete research in multiple nuclear specialties.
- Lead the planning, designing, and analyzing irradiation experiments to evaluate the performance of advanced nuclear fuels and materials.
- Primarily responsible for developing post-irradiation examination plans, overseeing data collection, reduction and analysis of the performance data, and publication of results in internal reports and the open literature.
- Provide analysis and evaluation of data from experiments on different fuel and cladding concepts.
- Collaborate with other INL PIE scientists and modeling experts to expand the understanding and application of PIE experiments to facilitate the shortening of the nuclear fuel cycle.
- Work closely with INL program leadership, industry partners and other collaborators to assess the performance of nuclear fuels and cladding through execution of post-irradiation examinations. Provide insight to INL facilities on future instrument needs of INL PIE examinations.
- Author or contribute to publications in area of specialty. Present results at National and International Conferences. Contribute to peer review work of others both within or external to the PIE department.
- Establish relationships with Universities within the US and internationally to develop partnerships that will be needed to support PIE in the future and improve the INL mission.
- Maintain a PIE strategy that guides deployment of new research areas and capabilities within the fuels PIE and performance assessment
- Be a role model by being a major or sole contributor to the generation of peer-reviewed publications, reports, proposals, and intellectual property.

Minimum Requirements:
- Advanced degree in nuclear science, engineering, or related discipline.
- Level 5 - Masters and 8 years of relevant experience or PhD and 6 years of relevant experience
- Level 6 - Masters and 12 years of relevant experience or PhD and 10 years of experience
Additional Skillset required for this position:
- Extensive knowledge of nuclear fuels and materials, irradiation testing, and post-irradiation examination.
- Proven record of strategic initiative development and ability to lead PIE program of national relevance
The ideal candidate would be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is: ($130,980 - $268,680)/($157,260 - $322,416). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisionsare determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
