GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Join the Wyoming State Geological Survey in exploring Wyoming’s rich geological landscape. We are looking for an inquisitive geologist who wants to apply their enthusiasm and skills to understanding the state’s geology, and who aspires to make a positive impact by studying Wyoming’s natural resources. As a Geologist I (ENGE 08) with the Wyoming State Geological Survey, you’ll dive into interesting geological investigations and special projects primarily focusing on economic geology. From identifying critical minerals to mapping aggregate resources, your work will directly contribute to the stewardship of Wyoming's vast geological treasures.

Geologic Activities
Conduct office and fieldwork, including key data collection, analysis, and characterization
Perform technical and scientific reporting and writing
Investigate, analyze, and characterize regional geology
Data Analysis and Preparation
Gather, review, and be responsible for all pertinent data, analyses, and evaluations relating to assigned projects
Progress ongoing investigations in both office and field settings
Prepare for upcoming investigations and fieldwork
Collaboration and Support
Provide support to and cooperate with senior geologists and team members
Collaboratively work as a member of an integrated team of geologists to identify, characterize, and create geologic information for Wyoming
Achieve shared goals and contribute to innovative projects
Reporting and Mapping
Create detailed geological reports and maps relating to geology, structure, and stratigraphy
Use advanced technical writing and editing skills to prepare, present, and publish appropriate technical documents, presentations, and reports
Ensure accuracy and completeness of publications, data acquisition, and field mapping
Problem-Solving
- Tackle challenges head-on and find creative solutions as part of a supportive team
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those candidates with direct and current experience working with the geology of Wyoming. A master’s degree in geology, with a background in economic geology, hard rock geology, aggregates, or industrial minerals, is preferred. This position is onsite in Laramie, Wyoming.

KNOWLEDGE:
Geologic principles:Thorough understanding of current principles of geology, including core geology, structural geology, geologic mapping, and related disciplines
Communication skills:Proficiency in interpersonal communications and presentations
Project management:Knowledge of project management principles and practices, including staying on budget and schedule
Wyoming geology:Familiarity with Wyoming’s geology and natural resources
Technical writing:Strong technical writing and editing skills
Data management:Expertise in data collection and handling protocols
Geology Software:Proficiency in using geology-related software and programs, especially ArcPro
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (in Geology/Geotechnical Engineering)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience in Geology

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Some travel is required.
Must be able to conduct fieldwork in remote locations.
