Job Description:

The person in this position will be responsible for supporting the development of precision navigation and timing products and ensuring survivability in challenging space and terrestrial radiation environments. This includes all phases of product development from initial architecture and development of interfaces and component requirements thru design, testing and verification, and on to production support. Some products may require operational support and on-orbit anomaly resolution. Tasks will include characterization of environmental impacts on system performance, testing and selecting parts, and evaluation of alternative designs for optimum robustness and performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Determine and specify space and terrestrial radiation environments for systems, subsystems, and components.

  • Understand radiation environment interactions with electronic components and materials.

  • Perform analysis and modeling of designs against expected environments to verify robustness.

  • Assist with requirements analysis and parts selection recommendations (e.g., SCDs and PARs).

  • Apply understanding of Total Ionizing Dose, Displacement Damage Dose, Single Event Effects, Prompt Dose, etc.

  • Plan and execute component testing for TID, SEE, DD, Prompt Dose (Flash X-ray).

  • Prepare test reports, present results and achieve customer approvals.

    Qualifications:

  • Requires comprehensive level knowledge of job area. May have in-depth knowledge of project management. Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering (or related) and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

  • Ability to obtain a clearance.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience in planning and execution of RLAT, SEE, and FXR tests on components and subsystems.

  • Experience in using one or more radiation analysis tools (e.g., GEANT4, MCNPX, NOVICE, SpaceRad, or CRÈME).

  • Knowledge/experience in the effects of UV and atomic oxygen on materials and components.

  • Experience in analysis, control and mitigation of spacecraft charging.

  • Understanding of nuclear weapons effects (NWE) and how to interpret/mitigate (e.g., prompt dose upset/transient/latch up/burnout, SGEMP, IEMP, and fission byproducts).

  • RF domain knowledge.

  • Experience in design and/or analysis of digital and analog circuits.

  • Knowledge/use of Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge/experience in the effects of radiation on materials and components.

  • Ability to present results and communicate with Customers and Senior Management.

    In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado and New York State is $106,500 - $197,500. For California and New York City, the salary range for this role is $122,500- $227,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
