Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Machine Learning Data Operations manager to lead a team of data associates, working on speech transcription, text annotation, data collection and data analysis.

As part of the AI Data Team at AWS you will be responsible for delivering high-quality training data to ensure the best performance of the AWS machine learning systems. Our goal is to produce the highest quality training data in the industry and to delight our customers by improving human language understanding and natural language processing. This role is currently operating fully remote, and it’s subject to change depending on future change in AWS or team policy.

ROLE

You will lead a team of Machine Learning Data Linguists (MLDLs) who are responsible for the ML data annotation work, enabling the successful delivery of high quality data to our customers. You will be working closely with our customers, Program Managers and Language Engineers, for the different language services we have, on taking in requests and planning their execution with our internal resources. In your day-to-day, you will have meetings with customers and peers to prioritize MLDL work, track projects’ progress, and work closely with other ML Operations managers on optimizing our processes. Your main activities will be: 1) managing your team, including providing guidance and feedback, working on MLDL promotions and professional development, and leading your team to achieve target KPIs 2) operations management and planning, which includes resource planning, stakeholder communications, and support team reporting, and 3) the creation and improvement of team documentation and processes, contributing to our organization initiatives and goals.

  • Collaborate with other Ops Managers to enable the success of the people on your team.

  • Oversee transcription, data annotation and data collection tasks for our language services customers.

  • Review customer requests and plan resources for annotation tasks.

  • Ensure on-time delivery of data annotation.

  • Conduct regular audits to ensure data protocols are met.

  • Generate reports related to team performance, goals, project status, and tooling when required.

  • Streamline and refine processes to drive continuous improvement.

  • Ability to hire, develop, and promote ML Data Associates.

  • Ability to handle HR processes in partnership with their manager/HR as needed.

  • Evaluate team performance based on metrics and deliverables.

  • Provide regular coaching and feedback on performance, and support individual career development plans in one-on-one meetings.

  • Facilitate and conduct team meetings, present proposals to diverse audiences

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in training and/or work experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and help their team focus on what is most important to deliver aligned results.

  • 1-2 year(s) experience in people management.

  • 1-2 year(s) of relevant work experience (e.g., project, operation management, team management).

  • Ability to deliver high quality results under tight deadlines.

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, collaborative work environment.

  • Passion for building teams and developing people.- Able to engage with different stakeholders and customers from different backgrounds.

  • Proven experience in optimizing processes and operational workflows.

  • Ability to lead meetings and presentations.

  • Ability to pivot quickly and flexibility in adapting to changing priorities.

  • Familiarity in working with ML data, language data, or data annotation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Depth and breadth of knowledge of language, linguistics, and the language services industry

  • Proficient in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, or another foreign language.

  • Experience with data visualization and presentation tools (Excel, Tableau, etc).

  • Experience hiring and developing teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $47,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $101,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
