Job Summary

Under direction, is responsible for performing professional level work researching, analyzing, planning, developing, and conducting training programs for skilled, technical, and professional development. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise supervision over assigned staff.

Work Location

Several reporting locations to include:

8039 Challenger Drive, 315 Santa Rosa, 12200 SE Loop 410, and 4700 Quarry Run; l ocation selection based on the needs of the department

Work Hours

Shifts are generally:

7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Training Team supports 24/7 Call Center operation; weekends, h olidays and extended hours are possible; hours determined based on departmental needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops educational and skill development training programs.

  • Conducts and coordinates training classes.

  • Develops teaching materials and prepares detailed lesson plans.

  • Develops and writes training manuals, handout materials, visual aids, and program outlines.

  • Assists line supervisors with orientation of new employees.

  • Conducts research on various topics for future program development.

  • Reviews on a regular basis training films and other audio visual aids for use in training programs.

  • Plans in-house training with cooperation of other staff members.

  • Develops and maintains training records and participant files.

  • Coordinates training and educational programs with local colleges, universities, and private institutions.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Psychology, Education, or a related field.

  • Two (2) years of experience as a teacher or training instructor.

  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence

Convictions.

  • TCOLE Basic Telecommunications Certification or must obtain TCOLE Basic Telecommunications License within six (6) months of employment.

  • Successful completion of TCOLE Basic Instructor Course within six (6) months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert level experience with Microsoft Suite

  • Experience with curriculum development, learning management, and/or other tracking software

  • Experience training in a licensed or accredited environment

  • Experience with working with adult learners

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

  • Knowledge of instructional and teaching methods, practices, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of program research and development techniques and procedures.

  • Knowledge of training program assessment instruments.

  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.

  • Ability to develop clear and concise written reports.

  • Ability to design and prepare visual training ideas.

  • Ability to conduct classroom training programs.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and training participants.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to perform all the physical, intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position including decision making.
