What We Want

The Postdoctoral Researcher will primarily support the research efforts and will be co‐supervised. The selected candidate’s role will be as a scholar within the Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering department, interacting within faculty, staff and students, advancing science and engineering, and contributing to the academic environment of the university. Additionally, the Postdoctoral Researcher will also be present to support undergraduate and graduate students in their academic efforts and advance their development as scholars.

  • Schedule: This position may require working evening and/or weekend hours.

  • Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Goal oriented, self-driven, and has excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of standard organic chemistry synthesis, including air free techniques

  • Experience in chemical characterization of small molecules

  • Working knowledge of electrochemical characterization

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Work closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to ensure research activities align with project goals and timelines. Assist in coordinating research tasks, tracking progress, and reporting findings. Collaborate with team members on specific aspects of ongoing research projects, ensuring proper documentation and data management. Synthesize redox-active organic small molecules and macromolecules using advanced organic chemistry techniques. Characterize synthesized compounds through electrochemical analysis and other characterization methods, such as spectroscopy or chromatography. Utilize air-free techniques and laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and safe handling of sensitive materials.

  • Development of Materials Preparation Methods: Develop and refine materials preparation techniques, ensuring reproducibility and consistency in results. Troubleshoot and optimize experimental procedures to improve synthesis and characterization processes. Analyze experimental data and report on progress, suggesting modifications as necessary to advance research.

  • Independent Research & Supervision: Perform independent research in a specific scientific domain, contributing to new insights or innovations in the field. Lead and supervise junior researchers or laboratory staff, providing mentorship and guidance as needed. Ensure proper training and adherence to safety protocols among team members.
