Guthrie Programmer / Analyst - IT Business Info Systems - Full Time in United States

Position Summary:

The Programmer Analyst role is to develop business solutions by utilizing their knowledge of multiple high‐level software development languages and utilities. They provide support to various business systems, integrations points, and organizational resources across The Guthrie Clinic (TGC). The Programmer Analyst works to understand user requirements to develop software solutions with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency. They analyze and design databases within an application, working independently or as part of a collaborative team. The Programmer Analyst collaborates with business operations teams, System Administrators, and with vendors to diagnose and troubleshoot issues that may arise between systems. Additionally, they collaborate with business operations teams, System Administrators, Project Managers, and with vendors to develop and implement new/upgrade solutions that leverage our current systems to improve workflows, reduce project costs, and decrease implementation time. The Programmer Analyst monitors major processes used within TGC systems to ensure the systems are operating at peak efficiency and oversees any updates or enhancements required by regulation or to support the business growth and data security standards. They are responsible for monitoring incident queues and assigning delegates for work completion. They adhere to documentation standards utilized by the Business Applications team. The Programmer Analyst works to ensure enough cross training is performed to allow the Business Applications team to provide consistent operational support for all systems managed by the Business Applications team. They work independently on project tasks assigned. They organize and lead basic meeting & document / share notes from meetings. The Programmer Analyst can manage minor to moderately complex business application projects and provide proper project status updates.

Education, License & Cert:

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, computer science, information management or related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience may be considered. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience as a Programmer/Analyst

  • Must have been responsible for tasks relating to a major application upgrade or deployment.

  • Work with end users and functional owners to review errors/workflows and work to develop changes which reduces the number of errors and improve workflows.

  • Must be experienced with various business systems’ online documentation and to be able to review and update appropriate notes pertaining to business applications’ functionality or issues.

  • Effective collaboration with Database Administrative team to ensure database systems are managed & meet industry & Guthrie standards.

  • Must have led minor to moderately complex projects.

Essential Functions:

  1. Basic knowledge of principles of software design and modification, basic computer skills, and a basic knowledge of MS Office suite.

  2. Proficient with Microsoft Excel. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Project Management tools, PowerPoint & Visio.

  3. Completes all stages of software lifecycle development including analysis, development, testing and validation.

  4. Acts as a mentor to more junior staff & supervises work for specific tasks.

  5. Demonstrates the ability to as act as a liaison between vendors, application end users and IT.

  6. Analyzing data conversion needs.

  7. Prepares and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.

  8. Integrates software with systems & external vendors.

  9. Participate in planning, design, build, and validation sessions as required. Completes all necessary system build of business system applications in support of core organizational functions.

  10. Updates software versions and applies ‘hot fixes’ to various servers as assigned.

  11. Demonstrates excellent problem‐solving, initiative/enhancement management, communication, and follow‐up skills.

  12. Escalates complex issues to appropriate resources and performs timely follow‐up to ensure resolution to user satisfaction.

  13. Ensures the development and maintenance of appropriate security measures for Guthrie applications that limit access to restricted, confidential, or protected health information by user role or function. Ensures enhancements to vendor applications do not compromise security structures developed by the vendor.

  14. Deliver presentations to a diverse group of key stakeholders and customers.

  15. Demonstrate to learn new technologies and application tools. Utilize self‐teaching methods to develop skill related to such tools.

  16. Maintains current job knowledge by studying state‐of‐the‐art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  17. Produce reports/queries and metrics to communicate with business leaders and ensure efficient business operations.

  18. Provides support for go‐lives at new location installations, application functionality or upgrade/enhancement.

  19. Represents The Guthrie Clinic and its values in a professional manner to all internal and external customers.

  20. Participates in routine and ad‐hoc meetings as requested.

  21. Ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast‐paced environment.

  22. Ability to operate in a high‐risk environment and balance risk/reward.

  23. Demonstrates thorough understanding of information systems, policies & procedures, including application support, change control procedures, operating systems, technical standards, databases, and related IT areas.

  24. Ability to travel to Guthrie regions, as necessary.

  25. Provides status reports, document time in appropriate systems as directed by manager.

  26. Demonstrate willingness to accept additional responsibility as requested to meet the needs of the department.

  27. Required to rotate twenty‐four (24) hour on‐call duties or balance paid time off (PTO) with other staff member counterparts.

  28. Ability to work independently and take initiative to fulfill job responsibilities.

  29. Responsible for in depth knowledge of business system software and implements enhancements and modifications to promote system capability, user efficiency, regulatory agency requirements, and reporting needs.

  30. Ability to review system specifications and work with end users and vendors to develop and implement integration plans which support Guthrie’s needs.

  31. Works with vendors to promote optimal functionality, including documentation, analyzing change requests, and upgrades to ensure that the most current versions are available.

  32. Function as a consultant to user departments to achieve workflow changes necessary to utilize the system effectively.

  33. Is Self‐directed and able to direct others within the team and external to the team liaison between application and end users as well as end users and IT.

  34. Ability to provide analysis of proposed process changes and communicate strategies.

  35. Ability to research, organizes, analyze, and synthesize data to support effective decision making as well as work within tight deadlines.

  36. Review new application enhancements and upgrades to promote system capability, user efficiency, regulatory agency requirements, and reporting needs.

  1. Travel for this position is sometimes required.
