About the Position

Position is responsible for the preparation and facilitation of recreational programs, in conjunction with the Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator, which meet the needs of the residents. Recreational programs to develop and maintain cognitive functioning, enhance creativity, promote self-confidence, encourage socialization, and foster community involvement.

This position is temporary for at least 3 months starting in mid-March 2025. It could extend longer.

We are looking for someone available 10am-4pm Monday-Friday. This also includes one Saturday a month.

Job Duties:

  • Assists with implementation of a therapeutic recreation program of daily group activities (inclusive of all functional levels), and individual interactions which includes bedside visits, trips, movies, entertainment programs, educational and recreational classes, and social gatherings.

  • Remains abreast of advances and/or changes in field and keeps supervisor informed of such.

  • Ensures recreation program is in compliance with applicable licensing and certification codes.

  • Orients and supervises volunteers by providing direction, instruction, and encouragement.

  • Assists with the acquisition of departmental supplies as needed. Keeps supplies organized in an efficient and accessible manner.

  • Works collaboratively with other Therapeutic Recreation team members regarding schedule of programs, input for monthly calendars, and preparation of activities.

  • Exhibits best practices regarding the implementation of programs for memory support, including knowledge of the different types of dementia, appropriate communication approaches, and facilitation practices that focus on person-centered resident engagement.

  • Assists other staff members with projects by coordinating the use of facilities and resources.

  • Solicits and responds to residents’ requests for activities, workshops, and special events.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years’ previous experience in implementing recreation activities with seniors preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill required.

  • Must have computer skills in basic word processing.

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with others.
