Position Description: The objective of this position is to provide Project Leadership for multiple assigned technical projects conducted within the R&D department. This will be accomplished under the close guidance of management and other more senior R&D staff members. Under the direction and guidance of the R&D Manger, the R&D scientist is responsible for product development and technical service for the polymeric microspheres and water-based polyurethane dispersion businesses. The R&D scientist will be responsible to complete assigned projects with minimal supervision while promoting a safe work environment. The scientist will engage in laboratory work to expand, coat, and test the microspheres as well as plan, lead and analyze production trials. A high degree of personal initiative and advanced interpersonal skills are needed to perform this job effectively. The position requires interaction with other employees as well as suppliers and customers. Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting and Support: Support and collaborate with all individuals within the company as necessary and recommended to achieve the results required by assigned projects. Organize and convene additional meetings as necessary to achieve project success and recommend external meetings and conferences. Conduct literature searches, including related technical papers, patents, and others, as needed.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Lead the Design and Development efforts on a number of assigned projects, working under close coordination with R&D management and senior R&D staff. Recommend, plan, execute, generate or obtain results, and evaluate the data from all experiments (lab and/or production scale) agreed upon with management input. Prepare all required reports as directed. Recommend additional reports as may be advantageous.

  • Maintenance: Maintain detailed laboratory records. Comply with our client's Design Control Procedure requirements. Comply with all Safety requirements.

    Qualifications:

  • The educational and industrial experience required of this job grade

  • Excellent data analysis skills to form solid conclusions

  • Exceptional communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Fluency in using contemporary and relevant software such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and other similar tools

  • The self-motivation and ability to operate routinely in a fast-paced environment as demonstrated from previous experience

  • Recognized ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously with other departments and R&D colleagues to achieve successful commercialization of projects within the timelines required.

  • Recognized/demonstrated success in the effective completion of projects

  • Recognized expertise in the resident technology for the relevant Business Unit

    Education & Certifications:

  • BS or higher degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or related field. If BS - 5 to 10 years of experience required. If PhD – 1 to 2 years is required.
