What you need to know

  • Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent in this position will be required to be 100% in office at RELLIS campus in Bryan, TX.

  • The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Job Summary:

The Research Engineering Associate I, will travel to field highway and airfield projects to perform condition surveys, conduct field testing, procure cores, and sample and ship materials. Will conduct laboratory tests on asphalt pavement materials. Records and analyzes results, report results to Principal Investigators, and will offer insights and observations based on results. Compiles results for inclusion in project deliverables including reports and presentations. Works with graduate students as needed in laboratory and field testing. Orders and purchases supplies as needed to complete project related work. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Duties:

  • Performs condition surveys, conducts field testing, and sample and ship materials which involves travel to field highway and airfield projects. (May require overnight lodging, depending on location of field project). Field work will include operation of non-destructive and destructive testing equipment on pavements. 40%

  • Conducts laboratory testing. 35%

  • Records and analyzes results and summarize results for inclusion in deliverables. 15%

  • Works with graduate students as needed to assist with laboratory and field testing. 5%

  • Orders and purchases supplies as needed to complete project related work. 4%

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 1%

Education and Experience:

Bachelors or equivalent combination of training and experience

No prior experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others on a team

Other Requirements or Factors:

This position may require overnight lodging, depending on location of field project.

Availability to travel to field highway and airfield projects

Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends as needed

Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time to field projects, which may include multiple consecutive days of overnight travel.

Ability to pull a bumper-pulled trailer with testing equipment to field projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in pavement materials testing in a laboratory or field setting

Physical Requirements:

Ability to move moderately heavy objects and to exert heavy force with or without reasonable accommodations

Ability to perform common office functions.

Ability to frequently communicate with other individuals within the workplace.

Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
