Job Description

This Research Technician (VTS, part-time) position will be part of the Patel Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University and is a key research position responsible for making lab reagents. Reporting directly to the lab PI, Dr. Maulik Patel, this position will be expected to work 10-15 hrs/week over the summer and carry out lab assigned lab tasks that include but are not limited to making growth media plates, autoclaving, and preparing other buffers.

This is a part-time temporary position that for the duration of summer 2024.

The Department of Biological Sciences has an excellent staff to facilitate issue resolution involving personnel, financial management, supply and equipment orders proposal submission, and infrastructure. The faculty in the department carry out diverse research projects and often collaborate with other members within the department and in nearby departments. This department covers a broad spectrum of biology, from molecules and cells to tissues and organisms to populations and ecosystems. Award-winning faculty and graduate students teach and carry out research in Biochemistry, Structural Biology and Biophysics, Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, Developmental Biology, and Neurobiology.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Make worm growth media plates.

  • Autoclave and wash glassware.

  • Prepare reagents, buffers, and solutions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Highschool Diploma or GED is necessary.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent directly related experience is preferred.

  • Attention to detail is necessary.

  • Some laboratory experience is preferred.

  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team is preferred.

Supervisory Relationships

This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively to the departmental administrative manager and functionally to the Lab PI.
