Job Description Summary: UCAR is excited to announce the job opening for the Senior Compensation Analyst. This position is responsible for supporting compensation activities to develop and administer compensation programs. You will conduct research, analyze data, make compensation recommendations, and act as an internal consultant on compensation matters. Ultimately, this role will support furthering UCAR’s mission of “advancing research and training in Earth system science.”

What You Will Do

Here is a summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.

Compensation Analysis

  • Participate in and/or lead compensation analysis and special projects.

  • Provide responses to compensation inquiries, including co-responsibility for managing the HR Compensation inbox and coordinating responses and status updates.

  • Provide Compensation Partner consultation services to assigned groups.

  • Perform new hire, promotion, and job change analysis.

  • Review position descriptions for new requisitions, job changes, and promotions.

  • Make salary recommendations for job changes, promotions, and new hires.

  • Perform survey job matching, and conduct ad-hoc benchmarking and market research.

  • Assist with the maintenance and updates to the salary ranges.

  • Support the Lead Compensation Analyst and the Assistant Director, Total Rewards with special compensation projects, research, and inquiries.

  • Participate in compensation projects including researching, consolidating, and presenting data.

  • Partner with relevant stakeholders on accurate job descriptions.

  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition team in ensuring accurate compensation recommendations relative to the market.

  • Ensure equitable compensation within the organization.

  • Provide guidance to leadership on compensation solutions as requested.

  • Assist the Lead Compensation Analyst and the Assistant Director, Total Rewards in developing, implementing, and evaluating compensation policies/programs.

  • Provide information and guidance to HR Strategic Partners and leadership on compensation strategies and solutions as requested.

Compensation Operations

  • Assist with the annual submission of government-required reporting.

  • Participate in compensation audits from sponsors.

  • Participate in audits of system data to validate that individuals have appropriate total direct compensation data and have inappropriate job titles, pay grades, etc.

  • Provide HRIS system support including testing and transaction approvals in conjunction with the HRIS team.

  • Participate in the administration of the annual salary increase cycles, including the merit and promotion cycles. Coordinate with the relevant HRIS stakeholders to ensure all compensation processes are appropriately set up and completed in the HRIS system.

  • Participate in the salary survey process.

  • Assist the Assistant Director of Total Rewards in responding to compensation audit requests and compensation inquiries for grants and proposals.

  • Participate in the compensation-related HRIS system and process administration and improvement efforts, in conjunction with the talent acquisition and HRIS teams.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, including FMLA, COMPs, and EEPEWA.

  • Provide information to staff on UCAR pay practices and compensation processes.

  • Develop and revise content as needed for a comprehensive compensation website

  • Document processes and recommend process changes.

  • Assist with the development of compensation training materials.

  • Provide feedback, training, and oversight to relevant stakeholders involved in the compensation processes (e.g., recruiting leads, recruiters, etc.).

Education and Experience

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

  • At least five years of experience in Compensation administration at an organization with at least 1,000 people.

  • -or- an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DESIRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED)

  • CCP, CEP, CAC.

  • Experience using Workday.

  • Familiarity with the Office of Contract Compliance Programs and federal reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Compensation programs in privately held/government-funded organizations.

  • Advanced to expert level in MS Office and Google Suite, specifically spreadsheets and data analysis.

  • Job analysis and position evaluation.

  • Federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to compensation.

  • Strategic and quantitative analysis for compensation and total rewards programs.

  • HRIS/HCM system, SQL statements, and reports.

    Ability to:

  • Stay current with industry standards and best practices.

  • Compile, research, analyze, and interpret statistical information.

  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel data.

  • Translate organizational imperatives into a cohesive compensation strategy.

  • Multitask and competently manage competing priorities.

    Skilled in:

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Creating training materials clearly explaining compensation concepts, processes, and procedures.

  • Problem/situation analysis.
