Position Summary

A career in Innovation and Business Improvement will provide you the opportunity to analyze and measure the effectiveness of existing business processes and develop sustainable, repeatable and quantifiable business process improvements. The Continuous Improvement & Optimization department is responsible for ensuring that the strategic vision and performance expectation of SJI is appropriately communicated, understood and employees are translating this vision into action.

These efforts come together to cultivate an environment that encourages progressive and ongoing enhancements throughout the organization, guided by data and in accordance with SJI's long-term strategies and aspirations. As part of the Corporate Performance & Planning business unit, this position will be the primary point of contact to develop meaningful and actionable KPI’s to measure the overall efficiency and effectiveness of business processes and operations.

The position will be responsible for tracking departmental/functional performance to their strategy while ensuring they are aligned to overall corporate strategy. As necessary, this position will collaborate cross functionally to develop business cases, align timing of approved projects, maximize use of resources, and track benefits within the expected timeframes on discretionary and enhancement projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Create and monitor 24-60 month rolling project/initiative roadmap for assigned line of business/stakeholders in addition to contributing to the overall SJI roadmap.

  • Coordinate resource plans both internal and externally to assigned line of business ultimately working with leadership and peers to define project/initiative priority and timing based on resource availability.

  • Responsible for the completion on the annual budget process for non-operational projects in designated portfolio.

  • Responsible for business case generation that aligns to the principles set out in the unified framework and SJI financial metric targets.

  • Review all completed projects from a “Value Realization” framework and adjust future business cases based on the various findings.

  • Report to FP&A savings/budget adjustments associated with project and process optimization efforts across designation portfolio.

  • Lead due diligence process for company M&A activities and provide SJI leadership with final due diligence report.

  • Lead Line of Business operational results meetings and the building for the associated dashboards/score cards.

  • Primary point of contact for departmental/functional leadership tasked with understanding strategy and supporting the development and tracking on indicators to show achievement of targets.

  • Leverage business systems to develop, monitor, and report the progress towards the achievement of the company’s financial, operational, and structural goals through measurable and actionable KPI’s. As well as track departmental/functional performance to prescribed strategy while ensuring they are aligned to overall corporate strategy/direction.

  • Facilitate and manage cross functional meetings, project evaluations, and prospective teams. Provide business support in developing business cases, aligning resourcing plans, and realizing benefits from discretionary and enhancement projects.

Required Skills:

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Visio, Power Point and PowerBI)

  • High degree of initiative and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to work across a matrix organization structure with horizontal and vertical teams.

  • Ability to think critically, perform analysis and deduce insights and recommendations.

  • Experience with public speaking, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

  • Familiarity with data interfacing tools and enterprise systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification in ASQ, SIX SIGMA, and/ or Project Management processes and techniques.

Qualifications

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration of Business, Finance, Data Analytics, or Energy Related field with 5 years of relevant experience, or;

  • Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
