Primary Function

The Senior Staff Engineer maintains a reputation of expertise & accomplishment within R&D & operating unit. The Senior Staff Engineer acts as a technical leader to others within the Company and participates in developing technology strategies to address key business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineering and Business Senior Leaders to ensure cross-functional cohesion and understanding of needs for project execution.

  • Research and identify opportunities and evolving product requirements within the specified market to continually apply the latest knowledge to projects to help guide AOS strategy

  • Work alongside other engineers to develop formulas, processes and specifications for innovative new products and product improvements.

  • Conduct thorough evaluations from modeling and testing to analysis and preparing specifications and prototypes for assigned projects.

  • Prepare reports with evaluation conclusions for function management.

  • Communicate R&D ideas, goals, timelines, and results with senior management and higher level engineers via presentations and reports.

  • Assist in identifying and applying for outside funding opportunities.

  • Estimate costs, resources, and time required for assigned projects and full deployment and assist in the analysis of the functionality and practicality of proposed developments based on customer need, market influences, and resource availability.

  • Help guide and mentor less experienced engineers and technicians.

  • Strive to optimize effectiveness, consistency, and prioritization while delivering within the specified time and budget restraints.

  • Advanced problem solving skills in an area of technical expertise of interest to the company.

  • Directs use of specific CAE software such as Solidworks, MATLAB, LabView, Minitab, EES, CFD, FEA, etc. and interprets results

  • Effectively communicates technical material to internal business units and external partners.

  • Solid understanding of AOS processes and customers, participates in functional best practices, and has recognized expertise by operations.

  • Has significant technical accomplishments for the Company.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related Field

  • 10+ years related work experience

    Additional Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD preferred.

  • Reputation of expertise and accomplishment within R&D and operating unit.

  • Significant involvement with industry and universities to develop new technologies and standards

  • Some publication history including patents, trade secrets, and papers.

  • Strong problem solving skills in relevant area of technical expertise.

  • Strong user of CAE software such as Solidworks, MATLAB, LabView, Minitab, EES, CFD, FEA, etc.

  • Proven history of effectively managing multiple projects and priorities.

  • Experience with designing and implementing controls, projects, and budgets.

  • Must be able to communicate technical material effectively with all levels of the organization and external partners.

  • Proven history of effectively managing multiple projects & priorities. Aids in identification and application for outside funding.
