Job Description

Job Summary

Provide routine non-classroom, academic supplemental instruction to students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meets students and go over their homework assignments in applicable subject area.

  • Ask students about specific topics or subject areas that warrant further exploration.

  • Review assignments and test scores, and work through problems or questions.

  • Provides study aids to assist. May perform as lead for other Tutors.

  • May provide input into program rules and regulations. May recommend suggestions to improve program.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead SI (Supplemental Instruction) biweekly study sessions and attend assigned classes.

  • Facilitate learning of course material.

  • Model effective learning and study strategies for content mastery.

  • Arrange and keep work hours at CEES.

  • Communicate and meet regularly with SI course faculty and Title V grant administrators

  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with course instructors.

  • Maintain confidential records.

  • Prepare reports.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Education - Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Experience - Two years of relevant experience

  • May not be currently enrolled student at Texas A&M International University.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working with college/university students in an educational setting.

  • Supplemental Instruction experience in content area.​

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and tactfully with students, faculty, and other university personnel.

  • Ability to motivate students.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to arrange and keep a work schedule.

  • Strong academic knowledge in content area.

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to prepare and facilitate workshops, presentations, and orientations to groups of students.

  • Ability to think critically and problem solve.

  • None

Pay of Rate: $15.00/hourly for up to 15 hours weekly
