Roles and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and administration of operating system workstations, servers, and associated applications to support business processing requirements. This includes managing web servers, SQL servers, network-attached storage (NAS), storage area networks (SAN), and email systems. The role requires ensuring data integrity, performing system upgrades, monitoring performance, and maintaining comprehensive documentation. The Systems Administrator II will also handle email administration and ensure compliance with all applicable Army regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

System Installation and Maintenance:

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, including web servers, NAS, SAN, and collaboration systems.

  • Perform software installations, upgrades, and system tuning in accordance with IT policies.

  • Ensure workstation/server data integrity through appropriate software and hardware solutions.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive configuration database/library for all systems.

Systems Administration and Documentation:

  • Track and report the lifecycle of systems documentation, providing five-year lifecycle projections.

  • Maintain data center diagrams, inventory, and system configuration documentation.

  • Manage and maintain cybersecurity controls in compliance with Army IT standards and Operational Security (OPSEC) requirements.

  • Oversee Microsoft MECM, SCOM, and WSUS systems, ensuring optimal system performance and innovation.

System Analysis and Development:

  • Administer asset and service management applications using standard tools.

  • Develop and update the Enterprise System Management Architectural Design Document.

  • Conduct system analysis, integration, and documentation while providing engineering solutions for technical problems.

Hardware and Software Support:

  • Install, de-install, and maintain hardware, including routers, servers, hubs, and switches.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and manage server integration into the ICAN.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot server availability and data recoverability.

SQL, MECM, and Cloud Services Management:

  • Administer and manage SQL databases, MECM, ESXi, VSphere, and SCOM environments.

  • Oversee cloud services, ensuring the secure transition, deployment, and maintenance of cloud solutions.

  • Manage NAS and SAN systems, ensuring proper control and access for authorized users.

E-Mail Administration:

  • Configure and maintain Exchange Mail Server, ensuring compliance with Army regulations.

  • Assist with PC setup, email host administration, and anti-virus installation.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain user accounts and mail services.

Compliance and Security:

  • Ensure rigorous application of information security, cybersecurity policies, and practices.

  • Maintain compliance with IA, CE, and IT level certifications as required by the Installation task order DD 254.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in system administration, including NAS, SAN, email, collaboration systems, and mission servers.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is desired.

This role requires technical expertise in systems administration, network management, and cybersecurity, with a focus on maintaining and enhancing the IT infrastructure within a secure, compliant environment.
