The Technical Sales Specialist is a key player in sustaining and leveraging the strong contact between CAE Defense & Security (D&S) program execution teams and our clients. In this capacity, you will be the primary point of entry for all sales requiring engineering support, and will work with engineering, contracts, and program management teams to develop follow-on solutions and offerings in support of mature contracts. This includes assessing client needs, developing technical content for work packages and proposals, working across organizations to estimate engineering costs, and generally harvesting additional value from performing contracts as part of CAE’s strategy to sustain its leadership as Canada’s foremost training and military operational support company. The role requires sound business development sense, technical knowledge, good written and verbal communication skills, and the enthusiasm and dynamism to take opportunities from the point of identification through review and approval cycles and into proposal and execution. The role we are offering you :

  • Analyze the Canadian Defence & Security (D&S) sales landscape and liaise with project teams and CAE Business Development Regional teams to suggest coordinated and planned upselling strategies throughout the lifespan of contracts

  • Lead and close specific sales opportunities in concert with Site and Project Managers, while working within multidisciplinary business strategy and engineering teams

  • Be accountable and responsible for developing statements of work (SOWs), building solutions, costing, governance and proposals

  • Foster and develop a network of key CAE colleagues from global product and solution groups upon which to draw to stand up, coordinate, and lead Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) to capture targeted sales

  • Meet clients, understand their requirements, and present innovative value propositions

  • Draw upon your experience with industry-standard sales methodologies to identify and close on specific sales targets, set and meet annual sales objectives, and increase sales revenue from existing contracts

  • Develop, document and implement an IPT-specific sales strategy within D&S Canada

  • Report on of sales engineering activity, priorities, and issues to the Senior Management

  • Provide inputs to internal R&D activity and advice on matching customer needs with company technology

  • Provide inputs to Product Line roadmaps and Technology roadmaps to ensure CAE is firmly focused on the future

  • Support specific sales campaigns with technical and process knowledge

  • Maintain customer information in SalesForce

  • Work with BD personnel to gather information about market needs, pro-actively follow-up with customers on-site, and become a trusted partner to your clients

The ideal candidate has:

  • University degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

  • 5 - 8 years of related experience

  • Experience working with SalesForce or similar customer relationship management systems

  • Strong marketing and selling skills; experience negotiating and basic contractual and financial knowledge

  • Experience in sales in industries with long selling cycles

  • Experience in the proposal and bid process, with the ability to independently set and work to deadlines

  • Ability and desire to travel within Canada on a regular (up to 50%) basis

  • Fluency in English is required; bilingualism in French an asset

  • Be able to hold a Canadian Security Clearance & Controlled Good Clearance

  • Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or with a valid Work Permit
