Leidos Engineering Technician in Vista, California

Description

Leidos is seeking an Engineering Technician position to work with Mechanical and Electrical engineers for the Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) business unit in Vista, CA.

Leidos Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) business unit at Leidos designs and manufactures highly complex security equipment for use at border crossings, airports, seaports, and other transportation mechanisms. Our products include radiation detectors and spectrometers, X-ray and gamma ray scanners for cars, trucks and trains, and CT explosives detection equipment for airline passenger baggage. The ultimate goal for this position will be to update existing design as well as introduce new products to our already extensive line of security detection products. The products being developed through this effort are truly novel, and will make travel and trade safer, healthier, and more efficient on a global level.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build mechanical structures associated with large and small electromechanical systems and sub-systems.

  • Identify components, communicate with vendors, provide analytical suggestions for component selections.

  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment such as non-intrusive inspection X-Ray systems.

  • Communicate effectively with internal team members across multiple engineering areas.

  • Collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to develop proof of concept, prototype, and production-ready systems.

  • Maintain specifications ensuring documents are well developed, accurate, and consistent.

  • Adhere to existing/established Leidos internal processes and practices.

  • Strong ability to operate a variety of hand tools.

  • Learn how to operate machining and fabrication equipment.

  • Fabricate basic mechanical components.

  • Ability to operate forklifts and manlifts.

  • Build elaborate prototype assemblies with minimal supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (US citizenship required).

  • Good documentation and process discipline with close attention to details.

  • Proficiency reading complex 2D mechanical drawings.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook

  • Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks based on guidance and direction from the engineering manager.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • The ability to occasionally lift 50 lbs.

  • Willing to travel abroad. If travel is necessary, typically will be 10%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.

  • Understanding of Engineering Change Order process. (ECR, ECO, ECN)

  • Understanding of metal fabrication processes such as machining, sheet-metal & welding.

  • Basic knowledge of SolidWorks part, assembly, and mechanical drawing designs.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $44,850.00 - $81,075.00
