Summary: Provides assistance to the Director in the coordination of daily staffing, work assignments and staff competency in area of responsibility. Supports Virtua’s Star Initiative of highest clinical quality while performing CSS Technician responsibilities by ensuring staff correctly collects, decontaminates, assembles, sterilizes and dispenses instruments, supplies and other equipment as necessary. Position Responsibilities: • Assesses, observes, prioritizes work flow, assigns and leads staff to ensure efficient operation of the Department. Serves as a resource to staff. • Ensures surgical instrument needs list is completed and notifies appropriate party of shortages. • Prepares, inspects and assembles surgical instruments, powered surgical equipment, and endoscopes into instrument trays or packages of individual items for sterilization. • Collects, cleans and disinfects patient care equipment and surgical instruments collected from clinical units, OR, L&D and other areas performing invasive procedures. • Performs quality improvement and quality assurance (control). • Ensures staff demonstrates accurate documentation of department records. • Monitors and documents biological and mechanical results of decontamination and sterilization equipment. • Coordinates the orientation of new staff and retraining of current staff as needed. • In the concepts and work practices of CSS, supports Best people by maintaining credentials. • Fills into Supervisory capacity in the absence of Department Supervisor. • Delivers patient care equipment, takes inventory of specialty carts and replenishes supplies for department and centralized O.R. Case Cart System. Prepares and distributes clean and sterile equipment and supplies. Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required: 2-3 years as a CSS Technician. Good communication, delegation and prioritization skills. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team. Required Education: High School diploma or GED required. Training/Certifications/Licensure: Certified through a recognized national sterile processing program by the NJDOH. CRCST/CBSPD required
