Role Summary

The Cloud Clustering Service team, part of our Data Platform division, focuses on managing the development and operations of the Cloud Clustering service, a critical component central to orchestrating indexing and search functionalities. With a cutting-edge tech stack featuring Golang, C++, PostgreSQL, Terraform, and Kubernetes, across cloud service providers like AWS, Azure, and GCP, we manage PBs of data for thousands of customers. Our team thrives on end-to-end ownership, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance for all cluster operations while enabling ingestion, indexing, and search elasticity at scale. What You'll Get to Do

• Build robust, fault-tolerant distributed systems in a multi-threaded/multi-process environment.

• Analyze and improve scalability of storing, routing, and searching data at scale.

• Identify and resolve bottlenecks in distributed systems, data pipelines, and multi-threaded performance.

• Play a critical role in tuning indexes, optimizing queries, adjusting database parameters, handling connections efficiently, and ensuring transaction integrity.

• Design and manage caching layers to complement and optimize database performance.

• Mentor team members in database performance, scalability, and caching strategies.

• Collaborate in a CI/CD development model for cloud-native deployments.

• Drive development, delivery, and ongoing engineering hygiene.

• Work closely with an amazing team and collaborate with a global engineering organization.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 8+ years of related experience with a technical Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent practical experience.

• Extensive experience developing software using Golang, C++, or other object-oriented programming languages.

• Deep expertise in SQL databases (preferably PostgreSQL), with strong capabilities in scalability, schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning, and a history of driving significant improvements.

• Extensive expertise in database management, with a consistent track record in handling production database clusters that support large-scale customer bases and high request volumes. This includes experience with database upgrades, sharding, and caching strategies.

• Proven experience crafting and building scalable software, with expertise in cloud environments and knowledge of continuous delivery, security practices, and performance optimization.

• Skilled in problem-solving, identifying performance bottlenecks, and resolving product outages.

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment with multiple ongoing projects.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Proficiency with Kubernetes and related tooling.

• Hands-on experience with Terraform.

• Experience with AWS, particularly in maintaining production environments using Aurora PostgreSQL, SQS, and S3.

• Familiarity with GCP or Azure cloud platforms.

• Knowledge of Puppet and configuration management practices.

Base Pay Range

SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area

Base Pay Range: $174,800.00 - 240,350.00 per year

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts

Base Pay Range: $157,320.00 - 216,315.00 per year

All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.

Base Pay Range: $139,840.00 - 192,280.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
