Job Description

The Financial Aid Advisor I, under direction, counsels and provides student financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families. Assists in facilitating workshops and learns to make presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. This position is located at Waco, Texas. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate. Some Saturday and evening events are required. Assists in facilitating workshops and learns to make presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. Requires the ability to work remotely, at the discretion of the university.

Duties and Responsibilities:

50% Counsels students and parents on financial aid information relevant to the individual student situation and answers all questions. Monitors the office email and responds to student and parent emails requesting financial aid information such as application process, verification, needed documents, etc. Responds to questions and counseling needs in-person, by phone, virtually, and email means from currently enrolled students, prospective students, and parents.

20% Assists with the outreach for the financial aid office. Assists prospective students with their verification process to Tarleton. Uses discretion to respond to varied questions related to verification that may require researching and consolidating data. Works the front counter and phones as needed when short-staffed per the Assistant Director.

15% Assists with the intake of verification documents, special circumstance packets, TASFA applications, and other financial aid documentation. Assists with the review of SAP appeal packets per the Assistant Director and Senior Advisor's request.

10% Interprets and maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to financial aid, and student employment.

5% May work at resource tables as requested by groups from Tarleton, and orientations to assist prospective students, and others. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: -Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education and Experience: -Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. -Some experience in planning, organizing, or in higher education. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism and a customer service mindset. Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs. Ability to work individually or as a team in a dynamic organization. Good interpersonal communication skills. Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend, give and follow both written and verbal instructions. Ability to organize and make decisions. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to use tact, diplomacy and judgment in dealing with all customers. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience

The target base hourly rate is $19.23 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
