SUMMARY: This position provides technical engineering support and leadership within the department. Develop and implement best practices to improve safety, quality, productivity and cost reduction. Assist in the development of specific performance parameters for operations.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Support/lead process improvement projects. Projects involve chemicals, mechanical improvements, support for on chemical trials and investigation of new technologies.

  • Drive process engineering roles, troubleshoot, and see through to problem-solve for the paper machines.

  • Identifies opportunities and direct efforts to improve existing processes to improve productivity, quality, and/or reduce cost.

  • Act as change agent to drive continuous improvement of production processes to improve quality and increase efficiency, which includes root cause analysis and problem solving.

  • Analyze downtime.

  • Needs to be self-starter, be self-directed, take initiative to move forward with ideas, be committed and be able to work with and influence others.

  • Coordinate testing in support of process improvements, trials, and other instances as required.

  • Coordinate activities of vendors and production to resolve quality problems and continuously improve the level of quality.

  • Review daily production and quality data, analyzes production and operation issues.

  • Provide data analysis to improve teams and processes on a timely basis.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Chemical Engineering, or Pulp & Paper Science, or other engineering discipline

  • 3-5 years’ experience in process engineering in the pulp and paper industry.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement, use of Kepner-Tregoe or A3 methods preferable

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Proven record of identifying opportunities and the ability to recommend and implement improvements.

  • Must be a leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Previous environmental experience in the Pulp and Paper industry is a plus.

  • Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, success managing multiple priorities, an affinity for working in a manufacturing operations environment, and working well in a team under deadline pressure. 

  • Strong interpersonal communications such as recommending, directing, and influencing.

  • Troubleshooting and Problem-solving skills
