BRAZOS ELECTRIC POWER COOP INC Project Engineer-Electrical Design in WACO, Texas

Position Summary: Brazos Electric is seeking a Project Engineer to support and assist the Electrical Design Engineering section with design and planning of required system protection and control facilities. The successful candidate will be multi-disciplined with knowledge of three-phase AC power systems, proficiency in other existing technologies and an understanding of basic principles of transmission and/or distribution protective relay settings. The candidate will possess the ability to communicate effectively at a technical level and lead electrical PandC design projects and others in a team-based environment. *Responsibilities: *

  • This role involves working across internal teams (i.e. Communications, Maintenances, Construction, Safety) and external groups (i.e. contractors, consultants and member cooperative personnel) to coordinate job related activities.
  • Prepare and analyze engineering drawings, specifications and system data to determine design factions on specific projects requiring protection related equipment (i.e. protective relays, transformers, circuit breakers, motor operators, substation control house equipment, protection related communications equipment, protection related automation equipment, protection related cybersecurity equipment, and general electrical miscellaneous equipment).
  • Design and plan system facilities for projects in accordance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot protection related systems to support operational modifications, repairs, or enhancements.
  • Analyze system fault records and report results to Cooperative, outside utility, or ERCOT personnel.
  • Conduct field related investigations or inspections and perform special electrical related assignments as required.
  • Perform project management functions, including; estimating labor, materials, construction costs, and scheduling of projects. Evaluate Cooperative material inventory for the electrical engineering section, prepare purchase order requisitions, and review equipment bids when required. Required Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.

Experience

  • Seven (7) years of experience in electric utility transmission design with detailed knowledge of electrical design standards such as NERC, PRC, RUS 1724E-300, IEEE, NESC and NEC (NFPA 70E).

License, Certification, and/or Registration

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
