Kaiser Permanente EPIC Program Manager in Wailuku, Hawaii

Job Summary:

Leads the collaborative development, implementation, support, and on-going optimization of Maui Health clinical information systems, ensuring the needs and priorities of end users are represented and IS governance processes are respected. Maintains in-depth knowledge of applications and features.as well as how they relate to operations. Makes recommendations and changes to procedures and workflow to fit organizational needs. Oversees training and site support for Maui Health EPIC (EMR) instance. Serves as liaison between end users, physicians & staff and KP HI. Provides technical expertise & support to team. Analyzes clinic, hospital functional areas and provides project consultation. Supervises assigned staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leads the collaborative development, implementation, support, and on-going optimization of Maui Health clinical information systems, ensuring the needs and priorities of end users are represented and IS governance processes are respected.

  • Represents MHS Information Technology and Clinical Applications with MHS leadership and KP IT.

  • Participates in multiple aspects of electronic medical record (EMR) implementation, including planning of go-live elbow support, testing activities, reporting, and clinical needs prioritization. Prioritizes and implements enhancements and version upgrades.

  • Initiates multidisciplinary communication about future EMR changes, upgrades, and downtimes, providing system thinking expertise to identify downstream impacts.

  • Leads interdisciplinary teams to develop/propose clinical data/documentation and enterprise-wide workflow standardization.

  • Manages trainers that develop, evaluate and provides education/training on clinical applications for end users. Oversee training and support services for Maui Health EPIC EMR. Manages team leads and professional/technical employees typically performing similar or related roles or functions. May also manage contractors, offshore resources and/or matrixed employees. Has process responsibility for shared services or matrixed organizations.

  • Serves as liaison between end users and KP HIEMR staff. Provides clinical expertise to team. Presents, organizes, and conveys problems, issues within IT with internal customers and business partners and externally.

  • Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate.

  • Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of management experience with at least one (1) year involving leadership training and curriculum development; OR seven (7) years professional/technical experience in healthcare involving clinical workflow/operations or clinical systems support.

  • Minimum two (2) years of EMR implementations, governance structures and project prioritization, interdisciplinary clinical workflow redesign, program development, quality improvement and project management.

  • Minimum one (1) year in an informal leadership role working with IT or operational teams.

    Education

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing, health care, public or business administration, or related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field required. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Familiarity with implementation of automated systems and working with software vendors.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the computer systems and applications that support healthcare, ensuring maintenance and upgrades as needed.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical environment, operations, and points of interface with other entities within organization.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, multimedia presentations, spreadsheet, and database PC.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in one or more applications by Epic Systems Corporation.

  • ANCC Informatics Nurse certification preferred.

  • PMP certification preferred.

  • Working Knowledge of CMS and DOH regulations.

  • Working Knowledge of TJC and NCQA requirements.

  • Clinical systems implementation experience.

  • Familiarity with medical nomenclatures, especially ICD-10, CPT and SNOMED.

  • Masters degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, organizational behavior, human resources development, education or related field.
