Salary Range: Building Plans Examiner/Inspector: $5,535.00 to $7,418.00 per month;

Building Inspector, Senior: $5,087.00 to $6,821.00 per month;

Building Inspector I: $4,664.00 to $6,221.00 per month

Starting Salaries: DOQ, DOE

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: *Work is performed under the policies and administrative guidance of the Building Official/Fire Marshal and Director. *Building Inspector I or Building Inspector, Senior: Inspects construction and development to ensure compliance with building, fire, plumbing, mechanical and related County, City, State and national construction codes, ordinances, regulations, and safety standards. The inspectors also conduct construction plan review. The Inspector specializes in building and fire codes but also assists Department with administration of other regulations and investigates public complaints. Building Plans Examiner/Inspector: Performs journey-level complex and technical reviews of plans and specifications and conducts field inspections of residential and commercial construction projects. Under the direction of the Building Official or Director, the Building Plans Examiner/Inspector interacts extensively with the public, contractors, design professionals, County staff, and other regulatory agencies. The Building Plans Examiner / Inspector also provides technical leadership within the Department, assisting the Building Official / Fire Marshal and the Community Development Director in navigating complex and new policy issues and code interpretation.

 

*Working Environment/Physical Abilities: *Work is performed both within an office setting and out of the office at construction and inspection sites. Inspectors and plans examiners is required to climb ladder, walk on scaffolding, enter crawl spaces under structures and operate a motor vehicle. Required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Require sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally. Require manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate a computer, telephone, and peripherals. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

*Education and Experience: *Building Inspector 1 - Four (4) years journey-level experience in construction trades. A bachelor's degree or trade
