**POSITION TITLE: METERING SUPERVISOR

**DEPARTMENT: Public Utilities, Electric Division

**GENERAL DUTIES:

This is responsible supervisory and administrative work involving supervision and management of the meter department of the Electric Division.

Work involves responsibility for providing leadership to skilled and semi-skilled Electric Division employees engaged in the reading, testing and maintenance of meters and instruments used in the electric system. This position has the responsibility for making difficult supervisory and technical operational decisions. This work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill and ability in supervising employees, utility metering practices, meter testing and calibration, MV90, automated meter reading, and meter reading software.

**SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the direction of the Chief Engineer.

**EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Provides direct supervision to meter readers to ensure the timely and accurate reading of all Electric and Water Division meters on a monthly basis. Establishes and monitors meter reading schedules, procedures and productivity. Coordinates meter reading activities with the business office, WED Engineering, the Water and Sewer Divisions and other Town departments as required.

Provides direct supervision to meter technicians to ensure the accurate testing and installations of electrical meters and ancillary equipment. Supports meter programming, testing, reading, and automated reading systems. Evaluates new meter products, designs and implements new meter systems, designs and directs installation of electric system improvements.

Evaluates work areas for safety violations and initiates corrective actions.

Conducts safety meetings and safety training. Fills out forms and reports on completed work assignments.

Assigns, trains and counsels employees. Administers union contract language and issues oral warnings and recommends higher levels of discipline. Assures safe work practices. May assist in employee selection and may recommend candidates for hire.

Coordinates activities on a short- and long-term basis to assure personnel, materials and equipment necessary for projects and objectives.

Assists other departments in the Electric Division as requested.

Assists in budget preparation and controls and accounts for expenditures and receipts as assigned by the supervisor. May attend Town Council, Public Utility Commission and other meetings as required that relate to the duties of the position.

Performs related work as required.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of utility metering/maintenance principles and practices.

Considerable knowledge of safety procedures and practices as they relate to an electric utility.

Considerable ability to supervise the work of others.

Considerable ability in oral and written communications.
