Burns & McDonnell Regional Global Practice Manager - Northeast Region - Construction in Wallingford, Connecticut

Description

This position is responsible for the strategic development and overall leadership of the Northeast Region’s Construction Global Practice which is currently over 230 people. This includes responsibility for all the Construction market segments, growing the practice in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

Specific areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Represent and lead the Northeast Region Construction Practice.

  • Identify key target clients for BMcD and organize a focused sales approach strategy.

  • Working with Global Practice and Regional Office leadership, be responsible for the following activities:

  • Recruit staff.

  • Manage a team – define an organizational structure and work with office leadership to build a multidisciplinary team to deliver EPC and Program Management services to target clients.

  • Assist in development and administration of marketing and client maintenance monthly and annual budgets.

  • Preparing and owning succession planning for the NER Construction Organization.

  • Develop and implement project execution safety, quality and financial controls.

  • Conduct routine project management training and champion employee development.

  • Develop a long-term strategic plan for growth and sustainability of the Construction business.

  • Identify, develop and direct the implementation of business strategies for the practice, including operational strategies and procedures, marketing strategies, pricing strategies, and sales and customer retention strategies. Must be able to maximize profit and billable hours on projects and achieve the stated targets and standards for financial performance.

  • Ensure assigned teams execute projects that meet or exceed client expectations for quality, schedule and budget.

  • Plan, coordinate, communicate and facilitate activities of several disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion. Successful completion of projects by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external clients.

  • Initiate or assists in proposal development and contract negotiations; responsible for coordinating project planning including scoping, budgeting, maintaining schedules, communicating and managing deadlines and establishing and performing to critical project objectives.

  • Ensure quality and safety standards are followed.

  • Ensure adherence to Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Responsible for ensuring Burns & McDonnell’s Safety program is followed throughout the organization.

  • Assemble a team that will do the following in support of growing the practice:

  • Create and cultivate key relationships within target client organizations.

  • Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with office leadership and Global practice leadership.

  • Facilitate strategy development to pre-sell projects before RFP release.

  • Facilitate proposal development for project pursuits.

  • Lead contract and negotiations process for projects after selection.

  • Develop relationships with key JV partners and subcontractors.

  • This position is responsible for the sales, revenue and net income goals for the NER Construction Global Practice.

Measures of Performance: (These performance measures will be quantified in cooperation with the Global Practice Leadership and Regional Office Leadership.)

  • Attainment of sales, revenue and income goals for the Construction Practice.

  • Growth of the Construction Practice based on sales, revenue, net income (profitability) and staff size.

  • Attainment of billable time targets for Construction staff.

  • Ability to maximize profitability on projects.

  • Ability to attract, hire, develop, and retain the best people within the organization.

  • Ability to execute projects meeting or exceeding client expectations for quality, schedule and budget.

  • Ability to execute projects in a manner to meet and exceed internal expectations for quality, schedule, labor/cost budgets, project profitability, safety and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program and 10 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the consulting engineering industry or project management required

  • 5 years' experience of successful management of EPC or similar delivery model projects, which would include proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination preferred

  • Expert experience in client and business development.

  • Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.

  • Must have the ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of government, industry, and public contracts on project-related matters.

  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.

Compensation

$185,000.00-400,000.00 Annually

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
