**POSITION TITLE: SUBSTATION AND MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

**DEPARTMENT: Public Utilities, Electric Division

**GENERAL DUTIES:

This is responsible supervisory and administrative work involving supervision and management of the substation electrical operations and maintenance department of the Electric Division. Also responsible for the oversight and supervision of the maintenance and repair of Electric Division facilities, both inside the building and surrounding properties including but not limited to: grounds keeping, general maintenance, repair of plumbing, heating and air-conditioning, and general renovations.

Work involves responsibility for providing leadership to skilled Electric Division employees engaged in the transmission and distribution substation construction, configurations, and operations. Duties include setting up work schedules and priorities, assigning tasks, overseeing work in progress, serving as the local representative for all contract substation engineering and maintenance supervision. This position has the responsibility for making difficult supervisory and technical operational decisions. This work requires that the employee have considerable knowledge, skill and ability in supervising employees, substation operation/maintenance, electric systems distribution including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).

**SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the direction of the Distribution Superintendent.

**EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Schedules, assigns, supervises and evaluates work groups in the substation maintenance departments.

Coordinates activities on a short- and long-term basis to assure personnel, materials and equipment necessary for projects and objectives.

Designs and directs installation of electrical substation system improvements.

Oversees SCADA support and improvements.

Evaluates work areas for safety violations and initiates corrective actions.

Conducts safety meetings and safety training. Fills out forms and reports on completed work assignments.

Drafts unit budget and controls expenditures within fund allocations.

Trains and counsels employees. Administers union contract language and oral warnings and recommends higher level discipline. Assists in employee selection.

Assists other offices and departments in the Electric Division as requested.

Performs related work as required.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of utility metering/maintenance principles and practices.

Considerable knowledge of transmission/distribution substation principles and practices.

Considerable knowledge of safety procedures and practices as they relate to an electric utility.

Considerable ability to supervise the work of others.<
